I'm looking for some bags for my '07 America and can't seem to find any that i like. I really like the K-Drive bags on Brent's page but not crazy about the price, anybody have any suggestions for some fairly large bags? I like the Nelson Rigg bags but they seem almost too big. Any input is appreciated!

On our bikes, any fabric or leather bags large enough to be practical are gonna look out of place/too big. IMHO. I was looking at the Nelson Riggs as well as I have several of their sissybar bags. I'm surprised the saddlebags are not waterproof like the Survivor series bags....and they do look "too big" to me also. I got two sets of small bags - Triumph fabric and little Chinese hard bags. I'm gonna use them with the sissybar bags when needed. If I need to carry more stuff, I'll take the truck!

Though I went another direction, I thought long and hard about the OXFORD Sport panniers. They expand out, away from the rear fender, and look like they could hold quite a bit. I did not think they would look too out of place on a Black Speedmaster, either - not having a luggage rack or sissy bar at the time. In the end, I went with the EasyBrackets and Willie and Max Standard Touring saddlebags - for less than $300 for the whole set-up, and they are as large of a "leather-looking" saddlebag as you are likely to want, to look right, anyway. The only reason I did not go with the Sports panniers is I did not want to have to drill them to use EasyBrackets. Now if I had a Sprint ST1300.........

Do they have to be fabric? I just got these [ motorcycle superstore] combined with easy brackets, compliment the SM very well, IMO, 3 different sizes--i chose large, very sturdy, with extra snap closure tie downs & rain covers. good luck with your search--somewhere around this site someone has pics of several different style bags on his bike, but i think its a Bonne or T 100,,,,,,,,,

I too am in the search for saddle bags. My criteria is to hold my laptop carry bag which will require a large saddle bag (18"L x 14") Then again, I question the wisdom of carrying a computer in a saddle bag. I think a trunk would transfer too much road whip to the tail of the bike that could be harmful to the computer. I've though about a messanger bag, but I don't like the idea of wearing a pack while I ride. It has something to do with the potential of hitting the pavement. Anybody commute with a laptop? What do you use to carry it. And, Plllleeeeeaaaassssseeee, don't tell me to buy a GS.
All good things come to those who ride.

I don't think it matters if the laptop is on the bike or in a saddlebag. If you hit the ground your bike will too. Sure there's a chance (50-50 I suppose) the laptop would be in the saddlebag that's not smacking the ground. But any such impact might damage it anyway, the screen if not the internals.

I got a pair of dririder expandable bags. They are brilliant you can set them up to take them off individually or as I have use them as throw overs. High quality stuff. Even found a small RJays tank bag that works.

I commute with the laptop upright in a PORT backpack strapped on the Luggage rack against the sissy bar. I also make sure I keep a good backup of anything I really care about. The bag has good internal shock absorption material and the feet of the bag fit nicely in the rails of the rack, which means it stands there of its' own accord, even with you unstrap it. I keep a neoprene sleeve in the saddle bag for days it looks like rain for that extra water protection.
I tried the messenger bag thing and I hated it. I also had a small laptop that I could put in my saddle bag, but just it in a sleeve and I did not like that.
Hope this helps. Back up regularly...
Thom

Yes, I am using the Triumph brackets with those. Takes just a minute or two to take them off. Last Saturday I saw BCarnage's Speedmaster. He has these brackets/supports (whatever you ant to call them) that were pretty cool. He has the ones that mount to the botton shock mount. Because they are black, you can almost leave them on al the time. Soren
