On a recent flight across the USA, I was forced to watch a film called, "December Boys". It looks like an Aussie indy type film that has Daniel Radcliff starring in it. Perhaps they figured it would appeal to the Harry Potter fans, but it ain't no Potter film. The story is set in the 1960's and is about 4 orphan boys who go off on their December holiday to stay with a family near the beach (Remember, it's summer in December down under). Basically it's a coming of age film.
At one point, another major character shows up on his motorcycle. I had to do a double take because it was either a Speedmaster or America, black, complete with disc brakes (couldn't catch if there were twin discs in the front)....in the 1960's!! And the guy was roaring up and down the shore, flying through the salt water. I was cringing!!
I wouldn't recommend paying money to rent the film, but if you do see it, look for the Triumph. I liked it better than Daniel Radcliffe!!

Hmmmm...good catch there, Steve. You'd think somebody researching this period set piece would know better than this, wouldn't ya?! And I've also seen a number of anachronisms in other movies over the years, and especially when it comes to the motorcycles and cars being shown in them. (BTW...your synopsis of this movie reminds me of a similar sounding storyline in the movie "Summer Of '42", where you can view the "correct 1971 model" of Jennifer O'Neill... O'YEAH..THAT was a good year for O'Neills alright!! And even this 2008 model still "ain't too bad" EITHER, ya know...
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Actually, based on the old cars you saw in the movie, I thought it was actually based in the 50's. Especially, when at the end, there is a reunion of the "December Boys" and they were o-l-d-e!!
It seems they did a good job of dating everything else, I guess they couldn't find a vintage bike that they could take flying through the surf.
Seeing the Triumph WAS the highlight of this film.

They probably just went to the local 'rent-a-bike' and got whatever they had that looked a little bit like it belonged. No sane person would stand for their vintage Triumph being run in the salt water.

I was watching the Ben Afleck Movie Dare Devil last night, first time I have seen it. Watched an bad guy riding a bike in the dark and got a momentary glimmer of the engine, "It's an Amereca!", I sreamed. Waited durring the chase scene and could certainly hear it was a PT motor and rear shots you could tell it was America pipes then finally a full profile side shot, an AMERICA! it was so cool. My family thinks I am whacked, but it was so cool, I wasn't so sure about it pulling a 35 degree wheeley, but it was sick! eddy

Go to IMDB.com and watch the trailer (#3), for December Boys http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0465436/trailers-screenplay-E33579-314From the silhouette of the bike with four boys riding in the surf, looks like a TBA. See the space between the saddle and the pad ?

Sheesh, Eddy, you're way late to the party. In fact, you coulda bought that bike on ebay years ago. I think it went pretty cheap.

Not to change movies, but I was watching Long Way Down just the other day and an America just pulled up to the crew in the middle of Africa. Of course Charley Boorman thought it was a classic Triumph and he called it a Californian, but it was a great surprise. Great show to if you haven't checked it out!

Watched "Smokey and the Bandit" again and the motorcycle cop who pulled over Snowman's truck was on a triumph.
That last 'Eval Kneval' movie was full of motorbike phoopahs including the modern T100 standin for the Triumph he crashed at Ceasar's Palace fountain jump. That was sooo lame.
Its more fun to be ridin'! I'm still ridin
