A bit to bland!!!!!! Why is it that to critique you have to first have a frontal lobotomy, and then compare everything to a harley! To witch there is no comparing the America to the sporty!

The guy mentions rain problems. I must be one of the lucky ones - I've been through deluges on mine and while I come out looking like a drowned cat, the bike never missed a beat. Could be something sinister about that...

I spent a day on mine in rain gear while pushing through a storm front on a trip last summer. My bike never missed, spit nor sputtered the whole trip. 06 TBA

I have been in rain storms bad enough that i could not see my feet on the pegs, not a single problem. Well with the bike anyhow, the girl on the back was not happy.

So have I and I've had no problems either. A couple of folks have but I think that's the exception and not the rule.

Its the connections (kick stand switch) more than likely without enough grease on the sensor.
Its a horrible review! Anyone only reading him will never buy a bike that won't run in the rain.

Before I decided on the Triumph brand (Specifically the America) I did more research than reading one article. WHat I found was more good than bad. As a matter of fact I only found three negative reviews: 1) customer was 6-3 and said he had too much buffeting with the Summer Screen. 2) pipes were buling. 3) customer was 350 and said the bike did not move him like he wanted. None of the above were bad enough to make me not want this bike. I would like to beleive any decent consumer is going to do the same be it reading up on the brand or talking to owners (who none of will disperage the brand). The longer I own my America the more I hate the comparison to any bike cause I just dont feel these bikes can be compared. I like Harleys...actually...I really like Harleys. Always have and always will. I have also always hated having what everyone else has. That said...the review doesnt show how WE the OWNERS feel about our bikes. It shows how someone feels about the bike that rides bigger badder bikes. Its unfortunate that it was raining (more like flooding according to the author) that day. Maybe Triumph should really do something about that kickstand switch! I was looking at mine last night and thinking of bypassing it.
Ill stop now...I feel like Im babbling but Ive writtent his much so there And I love my America! so screw him!

Regarding the running in rain problems, I live in SoCal(mostly) and so I can not testify to this little niggle as well as some bloke in weather-challenged Ol' Blighty can, and so I have no comment there. However, this gentleman does have a point when he stated the BA is "bland", but ONLY because many people on this planet mistakingly believe any "compromise is bland". And this folks is exactly what our BAs ARE!
The people in Hinckley took the classic vertical-twin and to give it a more V-twin cadence dropped a 270-crank in it. And then they styled a somewhat "Harley-esque" look to it, and then bolted a set of forward-mounted foot controls on it.
And so, what do we have here?
Well, I'll tell ya!!!
We ended up with a darn good cruiser, probably the best on the market today(but in the lexicon of these poor bedeviled folks of which I speak..."What? A Triumph CRUISER???!!!") with a SMOOOOOOOTH as freakin' silk motor in it, that you can actually have a little fun with in the twisties(or over there, those oft-timed rainy "B-roads") but all the while NOT looking exactly like your "classic Triumph"! What a NOVEL freakin' IDEA, HUH?!
(which for some reason, as I said, seems to confuse a whole lot of people who have fixed ideas about the term "COMPROMISE"!!!)

It really didnt seem like that bad of a review. He talked about the pros and cons, which every bike has..and then gave his opinion of it being bland. The rain problems he blamed on the carbs and not the bike..that was responsible of him also.
I myself have been caught in some rediculous rain, with open pods hanging out in the wind with no airbox, and it ran fine. But its not like we havent heard of this problem before on this site.
No bike is perfect and everyone can nitpick anything.

I don't know, it almost sounds like he was low on fuel instead of the bike malfunctioning, or it wasn't venting properly.

I gotta agree with you there. Overall I think it was a very positive review. He even compared it favorably with Honda which in my eyes is praise indeed. I would have been mighty POed if he had said it was as smooth as a Harley.
Besides, i like bland. Dont want any excitable types around here.

Yeah exactly
he was pretty careful on how he worded the bland part cause he wrote " for me it is a bit too bland"
I honestly cant stand it when I read a review on something and the writer either trashes it closemindedly or likes it way to much cause hes trying to sell the thing. A fair review is what I look for and I think its what he wrote. If people dont buy it because 1 guy says it'll stall in the rain, then so be it. I honestly dont like the stock america, and I wouldnt have bought one if it wasnt for mine being already customized to my tastes.

I rode from NE PA to to the northern end of Vermont on my way to Laconia NH in driving rain. It was raining so hard I couldn't see the tail light of the guy in front of me,also a Triumph (America). Neither one of our bikes missed a beat. I have ridden in the rain since then too and never missed a beat, ever.

Except for the part about the rain, it seems like a pretty honest review.
The cruiser market is very competitive, and very crowded. It's hard to get high praise when you're being compared to some of the bigger V-twins. But if you're in the market for a middleweight cruiser, the Triumph 865s are solid bikes at a good value.

Good honest review, overall. (I love the word 'Motorway.' It sounds so dammed - intentionally misspelled to avoid the dreaded ****** 'asterisks of smiting' - British...)

I guess he has a point, the America is so well behaved that even in the hands of a rank amateur, you have to get in way over your head before the bike will scare the pee out of you. It is so well balanced that unintended wheelies and stopies just don't happen. So, if your idea of a "bland" bike is one that you can ride without soiling your nickers.....

Oh nuts, I guess I one of the few that has had problems in the rain. I hope I've fixed it with the advice of those here. Other than that, to call my BA a "bland" bike is stupid. If it's so bland, how come people are always coming up to me and commenting on its good looks. And my friends, who have rode it, all say they like it. Bland. Bah humbug!

I dunno, I think you are misreading the Honda public. Thats where we get most of our buyers of Triumphs. Its hard to get a HD RUB off of the image machine. If they read about a mechanical fault in the rain, that bothers them. They are looking for perfect peace of mind.
I am making a general statement, yes there are exceptions.
I don't think he did Triumph any favors with that poorly written piece. A good author would have found out why the bike quit on him. He just hohums it as if it normal that you can't drive a Triumph on a rainy day.

I've had mine quit a couple times in a bad rainstorm, between Raton and Las Vegas, New Mexico of all places. Anyhow, a decent review. This guys writing is a heck of a lot more bland than my Speedy, and I can buy aftermarket stuff for it.
