I've taken up a new hobby, in the tradition of some of our founding fathers, such as my personal hero Thomas Jefferson;

Making Beer!

My buddy is moving to Germany and had a garage sale - I made off with some of his Mr. Beer kit, including three fermenters, some mix, and hops.
Ordered some more ingredients online, so I can get started soon. It'll take around a month for the first batches to be ready but I'll post results of my first try.
I plan to do some research, so I can come up with my own recipe - maybe I'll call it Rex's Triumphant Stout or something.

On a related subject, I was looking for some steins, or pils or pint glasses with Triumph logos or bikes on them - couldn't find a thing.
Maybe eddy can work something up?

Here's my favorite place for buying supplies. Free shipping for orders >$59. Try here for recipe ideas. Our own Dinqua has a site devoted to the subject and I personally make a mean Oil-in-Frame Stout.

No better hobbies known to man (Homebrewing and British Iron).

Regards,

Tom

My wife got me a Mr. Beer kit for Christmas. I did my first batch according the instructions and had mixed results.

After bottling, only three bottles of 8 got "rock hard" - meaning they were "done" - the other five never got hard. The three bottles that did get hard, tasted good - not excellent, not bad, but drinkable and better than a Bud any day of the week. A 4th bottle was drinkable - the other four went down the drain.

My theory is I contaminated the last 5 bottles. When bottling, I discovered it was kind of a PITA to get the sugar into the bottle, so I found a funnel and used it. My guess is it didn't get sanitized properly.

Just yesterday I started a 2nd batch. So we'll know in a few weeks if it's better.

I prefer George Washington...his still pumped out over 11,000 gallons of sweet, sweet rye whiskey a year.

Any beer recipe that requires adding sugar to the bottle is suspect. There are plenty of good beer kits out there and you might find them on line or even locally in brew supply stores. Making beer is easy really, no harder than any kind of cooking. And the results can be very satisfying.
Enjoy!

I had some brew in the bag beer one time. It was actually very good. Just add water, leave in a dark cupboard and come back in a few weeks later and drink (i think thats all you did, it was a long time ago). Very good it was.

Yeah, and it was the longest and soberest month of my life waiting for the stuff to brew.
Too many good brands on the shelf waiting for me to have to wait on it. Favorite: Boulevard Dry Stout

excellent, more converts!
Just be patient with it and control your temps at all times and you should be fine.
