When I bought my SM, the guy I got it from left it out in the rain. The shocks are rusty on the shaft inside the springs. I want to replace them.
I've been looking at the available shocks for this bike and I am concerned about lowering the shocks to 11.5 inches. I'm about 235 lbs (Thats about 107 Kilos to you blokes over yonder.) Do any of you folks think I'll have any problems lowering the shocks with respect to tires rubbing the fender because of my weight or on bumps or cornering?
Also, what is the general opinion on who makes the best shock for the money?

I have the shorter progressive shocks on my speedy and I wiegh a little more than you and have no problems solo. The ride got a little rough with my better half on the back so I "turned up" the shocks and they have been fine.
The progressives (412s I think, check the tech vault) are a definate improvement over the stock shocks.

Bought Hagons for Wendys bike, she likes them and those are made to order. You specify dampening and spring tension.

I have 412's lowered 2" and progressive fork springs slammed 2" also. I'm 190lbs(truthfully about 200),I can cruise two up no problem. You'll hit the stops before the tire.

The difference between the Progressive 412's and the 440's is the 440's have better valving. The difference from stock to 412's is markedly better across the board and the difference between the 440's and 412's is just as notable as reported from those who have made those specific transitions. In selecting the shocks if you exceed the manufactures gross weight (rider, gear and passenger) of 440 - 50% of the time then you need to go to the Heavy Duty Spring in the 412.
