We are at present getting battered with high winds, taking ridge tiles off etc. Took dog for a walk along the promenade and noticed a very low flying helicopter going out to sea so went up on the sea wall to see a ship being blown about in the water, apparently this ship is from Ireland en-route to Heysham and got hit by a 7 metre wave and now she is listing. All crew are being evacuated (19) and 4 passengers, the RAF and coast guard are air lifting them off.

You got to hand it to these guys who fly these helicopters, it must be hitting 100 mph out there at the moment, High tide is 6am, but the wind is blowing the tide and it is only around 100 metres off shore..

Got a cousin working on the oil rigs out in Morecambe Bay. I bet he's finding it 'interesting' !

That sort of work is not so easy when you are running at cruise speed to just stay even. I hope their boss gives them some special recognition for their courage.

Heck even a 20mph cross wind will toss a small helicopter around, can you imagine a 100mph gust? One blast and your swimming.

The ferry is now beached in Bispham, which is in between Blackpool and Cleveleys, when you think it was just off Rossall at Fleetwood last night the wind and high tide at 6 am this morning has certainly moved it.

Wow, this is close to the shoreline.

I guess they are hoping that high tide will right her and get her back out to sea.

I had a look on Google Earth to see the area where the ferrry ran aground and just as a matter of interest, I had a look to see if the Oil platforms in the Irish Sea were visible. When I zoomed in at 54 09 40.42 N, 3 38 49.51 W (right in the middle) a blue button appeared. It was Sandwell and Dudley Railway Station !

Now I know Global warming has had an effect on sea levels, and as I live about 5 Miles from Sandwell and Dudley Railway Station .....I'm seriously concerned !

Yes, but just walked down the promenade towards Cleveleys with the dog yesterday. They have placed men around the wreck 24/7 to stop you getting anywhere near it. The shore line is littered with Mcvities biscuit wrappers and empty bags of peat. They are going to see if they can refloat it next week so will keep my eyes open and take more pics.

The last one to come aground in 1927 the remains are still there..

Some more updated photo's, she's is leaning over further now, a bid to rescue her is suppost to start this week.

Apparently there are 50 containers aboard this ship. They are going to empty the fuel out and pump her full of water to see if that will bring her back up..

Hopefully there is nothing from Hinckley that was on its way to the U.S.

Looking at that picture. It looks like they would need an incredibly high tide to get that ship to float herself again.

What are they going to do with this.

Mark, ever been to Portsmouth. I'd say that would be about the right amount of tide. I was floored when we moored there at high tide, and then came topside again after low tide! I believe something in the neighborhood of a 17 meter (roughly 51 feet!) tide change!!! Aha, they could use a Zepplin or two, and lift her upright at high tide, and then slide her out to see. Anyone seen the Graf Zepplin lately...

not something you see every day.. They shut down the harbor here if it gets to bad.. We did have some a$$hat run a yacht into the battery a few years back.. Nothing like running someone elses 2 million dollar boat into a brick wall.

Cleveleys Web cams

Clevleys Web Cams three to choose from

some of the wagons from the top have fallen off now, and also made a hole in the side. They say someone has loosend the ropes holding these on.

The papers say it will be a week to 10 days before they try and refloat her

The very latest on Riverdance is that she will be cut up on the sands, the salvage team say they have had problems battling with high winds and high tides.

The ship has now got sand inside the vessel and sea water and has sunk even further into the sands. They, the Insurance company, the owners and the salvage company are meeting today to talk over the fate of Riverdance.

Some nice shots there Ray. Too bad they couldn't salvage her but at least there wasn't any environmental damage by way of fuel to clean up.

They have drained the fuel from her John, so I should imagine they will only be a little diesel fuel left in the hull. There are still trailers beneath the decks with cargo on so they will need to be dealt with before they do anything like cut her up.
