Wow,,wife and I went to the "origional" VanHalen with "Diamond Dave" - David Lee Roth.at the Ford Center in OKC...3-hrs of some really good music and "they" looked to be having a good time and Roth could still carry a tune ! Eddy Van Halen is still, simply phenominal on a guitar.
What a good time.........LOTS of us 40/50's types....
dude, rock on.........Now I am pumped up for my old groups...RUSH is next and ...wow,,,I am young again....

Schweet....My big brother bought me a ticket for the Atlanta concert at Phipps arena weekend after next...He has always went out and got us tickets for the bands we grew up with, then calls and "tells" me when we're going....The last one was at the G3 tour with Joe Satriani, was REALLY cool when Joe came out with his Ibanez screamin feedback and tremolo through the amps and went into "surfing with the alien" and other cool tunes...I have a pretty cool Big Brother....probly should tell him that sometimes...

I hate to say it but I think that only the first album with Diamond Dave was any good they went down hill from there until they joined up with the Red Rocker Sammy Hagar. I would take Van Hagar over all the VanHalen except for their first album. They might have pulled out a hit here or there but it wasn't the same stuff that they put out in their first album.

Yep, only VanHalen LP I have is the first and got it in '78 when it came out.(do have a new companion CD) The concert was in essence the first album , song for song , with all of the other "big" hits thrown in...DD can do that leaping-twisting-kick thing we all tried to do in H.S. in the late 70's....difference is, he can still do it and I can't...oh well, now just to wait until April for Geddy, Alex and Neal at the Ford Center .......then it will be like the closing scene in Truman....turn the channel and go on to something else ! i.e. more attention to the Bonnie and Sprint

Also seen them a couple times in Germany while I was in the service....VERY disappointing...They were playing a soccer field, and pulled up behind the stage in a small bus, and if you were paying attention, you got to see Valerie Bertinelli step off the bus, followed by Dave, who nearly falls on his face, and the rest of the band. When the show started, I could'nt even tell what they were playing...Eddie was backstage fumbling with a guitar that was, I think, inadvertently plugged in, and never showed himself, while Dave was stupid drunk cursing the Germans left and right....while the audience was throwing whatever they could find at them...I was incredibly disappointed...Hope this show is better...

Sammy sucks. I hated him with VH. Dave brings the better voice, the show, and attitude to make it work.

Well, there are two things i can say good about Sammy...his stint with Montrose, and his Cabo Wabo Tequila....other than that, not much.

And the best thing is that if anyone has a heart attack, David Lee Roth can administer CPR...

I grew up in the Pasadena area where the VH brothers are from. They even played at a friend of mines back yard party when they were known as "Mammoth" (this was mid-'70s)... and later they would play the Masonic Temple, Pasadena City College, etc. before they made it big. I played in a younger band at the time so we all "kind of" knew each other. Roth was about the same off stage as he is /was onstage. One time as many of us Pasadenians of that age did.. sleeping out on the blvd. waiting for the Rose Parade.. DLR was roller skating down the street doing his "hey.. look at me" thing. Someone tossed a bag of marshmallows in front of him and he ended up in a rose bush.
Good times.

Well I say again after the first album with DLR I think Van Halen went down hill fast until the Red Rocker joined up with them and they were rocking again. So other than their first album I would rather see Sammy rock with Van Halen than DLR. But then again I would pay to see the Red Rocker before I would pay to see DLR. Sammy has been around since the Montrose days and he still rocks!

What I get out of these "origional fan base tours" i.e. recent examples ; Little River Band, 3-Dog Night, Eagles, Van Halen, Rush, etc....is the flood of memories from (ick) the 70's and how I wish I had paid more attention of the things around me instead of being in such a hurry to get out of college and secure the mortage, 2-kids and wife...not that the 2-kids aren't fun and the wife ! 25yrs and ain't tired of it but you are young once and thanks to these, contemporaries, old dudes still rockin'...it gives one last gasp before they HAVE to retire...but who knows, look at the Stones....proof that "ever-clear" works as an embalming fluid and one can go on forever !
Life is a Highway...ride it !

Like 69tri1 I too am a Sammy Hagarian. Sorry Diamond Dave. Too flamboyant for me. Always thought he should have a show in Vegas or something.

Let's not forget Alex. He's as good on drums as Eddie is on the axe.

OOOUUUCCCHHH!! Don't be hating on Michael Anthony! No one played the Jack Daniel's bass like him. You want to put the band back together then you must include Michael. If nothing else for his backing vocals... Using Wolfgang instead really pisses me off..... ride safe...Gordon

Michael Anthony defected, didn't he? I saw him playing a concert on TV with Sammy Hagar for New Years Eve last year.
