Thought i read somewhere that one or more of the twins had a socket for accessories like a cig lighter socket located under the tank or such. anyone know? I'm not at home right now or i'd look, but i'd like to know WHERE to look and whether to even bother first.

The socket's available for the speedmaster and america, but you have to purchase it seperatley. It mounts on the upper engine bracket, below the tank.

You can buy one from Triumph for about 32 bucks or buy one from Cycle Gadgets for $15.95 A member made mention that most tractor supply places sell BMW type connectors as well. You can see where it mounts by looking at this picture. Look right behind the cam cover. See the black flap covering it on the rear motor mount?

Here is a better picture of it.

From the left side, discern the purple wire. The plug that has that purple wire is for the plug you ask about. (It's prewired in the harness) The plug is hot all the time too.

Thanks Moe ! Appriciate you going to the trouble of the pics.

So you are saying the purple wire is a 12v hot lead thats there specifically for accessory use? I assume you just attch the other terminal of the socket to any ground point, right? By the way, hard to tell from the pic, but what kind of socket is that? Is it for cig lighter type accessory plugs? Actually come to think of it, if they fit that hole i could just get a cig lighter socket from autozone for probably $2-3 and find a rubber cap to plug it with.

You can buy one from wal mart that already has a plastic spring loaded cover for about five bucks. Mount it anywhere you like. I wired mine along the frame under the tank and wired in a fuse to the battery. Easy.

PS. Not sure i'd want to use it as a cigarette lighter, but its fine for cell phones, heated gloves and such.

It's a BMW type plug which is different than an ordinary cigarette lighter. The cig type have a tendency to let the plugged in component work its way loose from the vibration.
