Durham constabulary Annual Easter Egg Run
Just thought this may be of interest .....It’s the only time in the year where you can legally run through a red light and not get fined for it.
Organised by the most Biker friendly Police Force in the UK.
Check out their web site http://www.durham.police.uk/bikewise/
Cheers

John

It will finish at Police HQ where we will have a coffee and a get together

Where we will check your bike over and make sure it is road legal, taxed and insured.

Nice one Ray!
I was just thinking of how to word a slightly more diplomatic reply but you beat me to it!
Joking apart, looks like a great run for a great cause and a fun day out.
Would probably have to change my pipes back for the occasion however...

Sometimes it takes a whole tank full of fuel before you think straight

We had a big meet up here, the police blocked the streets off in St.Annes and they put on stunt riders etc, but as you were riding away they were pulling you up for reg plate too small, pipes to loud etc etc.

Nice easy prey all those bikes in one place, they just need to walk down a line and do there little spot checks, then pull you over later when you leave

Hi Ray
Nothing much like that up or way although if you are breaking the law through irresponsible riding or speeding you will get pulled over and given a lecture.
The Durham police are biker friendly and do a lot to encourage safe sensible riding....there’s far too many bike related deaths on our roads every year.

500 riders attended last years event and more are expected to attend this year.

As well as organising the Easter Egg run the Durham Force also organise the annual bike show at the Durham HQ...The feedback on their web site is pretty positive.

And whilst were on the subject of exhausts........I came across this rather interesting reply to a thread

I have the short Tor's on my America, they are pretty quiet without any modifications done to them. I drilled straight through from both ends and they still sound relatively quiet. But I do not attract the law for noise which is a good thing.

Well You do attract them now!

Note in diary.......Dent .....Decibel Meter........birchr........exhausts

That’s my weekend beer money sorted

Hi Paul

Don’t be too hard on Ray... as you grow older you do become more cynical and start to act like Victor Meldrew....

I suppose Ray's reached that point in his life that most of us dread.

The wetlands meet will be starting at the back end of March...hope to see you there.

John

John we have a local meet on Wednesday in summer, and the local police put a band on to attract all the local and distant bikers. But you have never seen so many speed cameras at 9.00pm on your way home, it takes me about 15 to 20 minutes to get home taking it easy and last year went past not one but three speed cameras.

I got warned in 2004 for the exhausts and the bike was parked up at Caton, I bet Oldgimmer can tell you a few stories about what the police are like in Caton, mind you the pocket rockets don't help a great deal.

Hmmm,

What's worse, noisy pipes on a bike or a member of the police force taking bribes???

I’ll log it in the memory banks to keep well away from Caton.

I agree....some police forces are certainly not biker friendly ...I think I’d be a little p’d off if the police in this area did similar things to what you mention.

I did get pulled a few years back but I was wearing a latex gorilla mask at the time.....there great for keeping that cold winter wind off your face.

I’ve got the Long Slash cut TOR’’s but I think there a little on the quiet side. I was thinking of doing a bit drilling (that’s how I came across your thread.....simply doing a bit research) but I don’t want to run the risk of ruining a set of pipes that cost me £250.00

At the weekend I removed 2 sets of baffles and drilled 3 holes in the 3rd baffle plate of a standard set of pipes. I hope to get them fitted next weekend to see what the sound is like.

OK I’ll come clean..........

Me a police officer never.....Wind up merchant..... Yes....but I’d never be a police officer.....my heads not pointed enough to keep the helmet in place...and since I came off my bike last year I do have a bit trouble bending at the knee so I wouldn’t be able to do that

“Ello, Ello, Ello what’s going on here then “thing that that most of the boys in blue do I simply cant bend my knee that far at the moment.

The decibel meters simply for use for environmental issues....bugger all to do with exhaust pipes though.

I’d still be quite happy to impersonate a police officer and fine anyone who’s breaking the law......Christmas has taken its toll on the bank account...and there’s some decent stuff on eBay which I can’t afford.

I would never accept a bribe......but if you rephrased the wording and called it a loan I’d be more than happy to accept.

Cheers

Funny that John, we go straight through the middle on our way to DENT

A lot of deaths up here last year does not help, but the majority are pocket rockets

You took it off and the officer said "My god put it back on"

Yep I will hold my hand and say yes I have a knackered pair in the garage

A big improvement I will bet, also go with K & N filter and hopefully you have the AI out already

The fine for loud exhausts is nothing on inpersonating an officer

Which you never have to pay back, I'll be in on that as well
