I am looking at getting a cool vest for the summer here in Louisiana. Does anyone have a recommendation? I am looking at SixSixOne Core Cooler, Fieldsheer Ice Berg Vest, Silver Eagle's Zip-front Cooling Utility Vest or Silver Eagle's New Generation Men's Classic Cooling Vest.

Thanks in advance,

Nukeranger

When you get one up & going, be sure to wear a big ol' wool hat on those 99 degrees F days, just to f' with people

If you can find one at an industrial supply source, it may be much cheaper than a vest as sold for the motorcycle market. Perhaps google could shed some light on that notion.

Thanks for the feedback. I will report back my results once I make a choice this spring.

I've had one of the early versions of the Silver Eagle vest for about three seasons. Works as advertised. I use it under a Fieldsheer mesh jacket when on the bike. I also wear it when I'll be at an outdoor event during the summer months which in Alabama can be tough on us old guys. It doesn't work as well when you're just walking around, but it still makes a noticeable difference. It can turn a nearly unbearably hot day into just an uncomfortable one.

I just purchased the SixSixOne Core Cooler. I'll post my results once the weather warms up! Since fire fighters, first responders, military personnel, athletes and race teams use it, they can't be wrong! I am sceptical but willing to test it.

So Larry, Do you know how these vests work?

They have the same gel material sewn in as those neck coolers you see sold at bike events. I keep mine in my saddle bag in a waterproof bag with water in it. When I get hot, I pull it out of the bag. shake off the excess water and put in on. Instant relief. Takes all day for water to evaporate from the vest.

SixSixOne worked well for me on a recent 1000+ mile ride from New Orleans to Austin Tx and back. I would like to try one of the full vests one day.
