My question is when is a thread too old to post to? I don't post here very often (at least since the old forum went away) but do lurk some. I thought I was being responsible by searching for what I was looking for instead of posting a question that had been addressed repeatedly in the past. When I saw a thread directly addressing the question I had, I posted to it. Sorry if I p!ssed anyone off by doing that. So, if I don't see it on the first page is it off limits? Is there a way that the thread could automatically time out for responses?
Thanks, Dan

+1, if you are new to the site, or just feel that you can add something to that thread I cannot see a problem with resurrecting old threads no matter how old they are.

You did absolutely nothing wrong. That should not have been critiqued like it was nor closed. If for some magical reason the powers to be don't like old threads used they have a simple setting in this php board to prune the forums. You did not one bit of damage to the board, the members or the php database. That said they owe you no explanation for what they do, get used to it.
I try to aggravate one person a day. Today may be your day.

Exactly correct but I will in this case.
Don't worry about it Dan, you did nothing wrong. Preferably, start a new thread so ancient threads (that one you are talking about was last posted to on 4/16/07) can die.
Now this part is directed to everyone:
Yes, there is a prune feature and it is time, user, or source (forum) driven. I use time but it is worthless if threads are constantly raised from the dead. So they get locked and eventually removed. Some forums are not touched, others are (can you guess which one is heavily pruned?).
My primary responsibility is to maintain this board, period. Rant all you want at me, it will not change that basic fact.

Dan, we definitely appreciate you searching for answers rather than asking the same thing over again!

Thank you for the responses. Next time I will search and either PM the person in the thread or post a new thread if it hasn't had any activity for awhile. Just needed to know the SOP.

Yep, Ian! Looks like among the administrator and moderators tool bin lies not only that dreaded hammer, but also a sharpened, gased up, and ready to use chainsaw TOO, huh?!
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Good on ya for searching Dan. Now, I want to add something. Posting a new thread is a good idea. Soooooooometimes someone will get their knickers in a knot and flame you for a repost. Just give 'em one of these

If you show that you looked for the answer and couldn't find it, or ask for clarification on some info you found, nobody should flame you. If they do, give em the salute.
