I didn't like them on my bike. Too quiet, not a deep enough tone, better than stock but still wimpy.

I've heard the long TOR's at my dealer not so long ago, it was on a scrambler though, I was not very impressed by that. That was all stock.

I had them and replaced them with Sceptres. They just weren't loud enough. Looking to sell them if you are interested.

I like the sound until I go riding with my harley buddies, then I have to twist the throttle to make sure it's still running. Has anyone done a bafflectomy on TOR's?

I have the short TORs and I love them on my bike. Not too loud, but enough to wake up my neighbors, and they look great.

I have the short Tor's on my America, they are pretty quiet without any modifications done to them. I drilled straight through from both ends and they still sound relatively quiet. But I do not attract the law for noise which is a good thing.

I currently have the short TOR's on my BA 2004 but these are straight through and consequently get a lot of popping on deceleration . They are quite loud so have to go easy in built up areas. These sound like the Triumph Scrambler , and am now considering the D&D megaphones , as I used to have reverse cone megas on my old T110 all those years ago.
I have heard that some versions of the short TORs are not straight through and these would be too quiet for me.
But they look good!!

06 BA with modified factory long slashcut pipes. AI removed; K&N replacement for factory filter; Snorkel not removed; Dynojet springs and jets; stock needles no shims. Bike popped on deceleration before and after mods to pipes and carbs. Adjusting primary jet air mixture made little if any improvement. Recently increased main jet size to 126 and popping has been reduced considerably. My conclusion is that the deceleration popping is all in the carb setup. If pipe changes affects popping (didn't on my bike) then proper carb setup should take care of it. My pipes have all the baffles removed with a 15" long 1.5" insert. Got my ideas for dinqua's pipe mod accept still has inner liner. They sound good to me. A lot like glasspaks. The 15" inserts were, in effect, to lengthen the pipe from the inside and give it a deeper tone. I am very pleased with the results. Great sound, accelerations and minimal deceleration popping.

I know you guys might be fairly new here. I would definitely suggest searching back the past year or so in the exhaust forum for the word "popping". You'll get a ton of material you might find helpful.

You should get a sort of rumbling on decel like a sort of popping but not excessive or backfiring. If you still have the stock air box in place you might just adjust your mixture screws out a little to fix the problem and maybe raise the main to a 125. TORs are still fairly restricted so shouldn't lean you out too much especially if they are used in conjunction with a stock filter.

GJS-Geoff---There is quite some detail about popping on one of the exhaust threads , but if I get the D&D megas these come with AI removal kit- which I have already done- no difference , and come with larger mains , so will probably change these at same time , as my current jets are 120 .
Maybe a case of experimenting with these.

Anyway - going to fit the stock exhausts soon as it is MOT time and the bike will fail the MOT with the TOR shorties.

Are we the only country to have these enforced tests?

Short TORs become significantly louder, at least at full throttle, if you have the Freak or some variant that opens up the intake.

Not a scientific analysis, but a general observation - if you want a deep tuba sound, you need a tuba. The long slash cut pipes will always have a throatier sound than the short ones.
As for popping, you gotta match the inflow with the outgo. Open up the exhaust and you hafta open up the intake as well, and match the fuel delivery too. Read the 1000's of related threads on here and when you get it to a deep gurgle with only an occasional pop on decel, you are there..

Excessive popping usually means it's running too lean.

Total new guy question, but what is with the whistling sound when throttling up? Anyway to rid myself of that? Perhaps removing the AI?

It is possible the AI is doing it but these bikes make a sort of whistle anyway. Whistle might not be the right word but sort of. It has been discussed a couple times some say top end or timing chain noise and others say primary noise. I really don't know for sure where it comes from but the only way to get rid of that noise is loud pipes.
