Triumph dealership to launch
http://www.spokanejournal.com/spokane_id=article&sub=3446
Store will sell, service motorcycles; owner to add line of ATVs later
By Jeanne Gustafson

Bob Ellis plans to open a Triumph motorcycle dealership in Spokane Valley at month’s end. The dealership, to be called Empire Cycle & Powersports LLC, will sell and service the bikes and will service all types of European motorcycles and also watercraft, Ellis says.

G.D. Henry Co., of Loon Lake, is completing a $100,000 remodel of a 16,000-square-foot building at 7807 E. Sprague that Ellis bought to house the dealership. The building sits on a 2-acre lot. Empire Cycle will occupy about 10,000 square feet of the building, which formerly was a Dishman Dodge used-car dealership building. Ellis plans eventually to lease out part of the shop and an office suite to another business.

The service center was to open this week, and Ellis says he expects to open the sales department Jan. 29.

At first, the business will employ a staff of four. Ellis says he eventually expects to employ about 10 people and to keep an inventory of about 30 motorcycles at the dealership. He says he intends to add a line of all-terrain vehicles at some point.

Ellis says he has operated a British motorcycle parts import business here, called Bob’s British Bikes, for about five years. He plans to fold that business into Empire Cycle. He also is president of Engineered Control Systems Inc., a Spokane security system manufacturer that employs about 30 people.

Cool! It's good to have more options, even if they're 5 hours away.

Eastern Washington has been in need of a dealer, hopefully it will be a good one. I know that Triumph has been very picky about awarding new dealerships.

I've ridden that way a few times. It's a nice little jaunt.

I haven't talked to my regular dealer in about 2.5 years. He's 2 hours away.

Ball Park, what kind of money does it take to add Triumph Motorcycles to your shop? Just curious....

Well where my shop is now, they most likely would not grant me rights to a Dealership..

Last time i ran the numbers it was right at 3 million. But that was a new 10K sf building, tooling, parts, bikes, pretty much everyhting new right down to the business cards..

Soren - Thanks for the heads up! FINALLY a dealer that ISN'T 5 hours away! One of the huge headaches of Triumph ownership (and there aren't many, of course) had been that I was a day's drive away from a dealer, and any service work usually entailed an overnight, or a return trip. Easy to spend as much money on the trip as the work...

This is good news for every Triumph owner in Eastern Washington / Idaho, and perhaps as far east as that little town, Thompson Falls, MT (?) -- both of us!

....now aren't you glad no one had the good sense to buy that BA off of you!! We tried to tell you!!

Sure another dealer, pretty soon there'll be Triumphs on every street corner. Isn't Spokane that medium, kinda', big city in eastern WA with stoplights and McDonalds and everything?

BTW: Bill, the big handlbar mustached guy who shows up at Nelson showed up on TV last week being interviewed about winter conditions. I fell out of my easy chair. He drives a roadgrader removing Eastern WA "Palouse Prairie" snowdrifts, so people can drive faster ending up in the ditch further.

Good to hear from you Del

Soren, I don't know if you know about Condotta's in Wenatchee. They have been good to me, but I sure can see that's a long ways for Idaho, Montana, and the far eastern part of the state.

Every time I go home to Moscow, ID to see my parents, I have to fly in to Spokane. It's about time they got a dealership in that area! Now I know where to send my mom to shop for my birthday present.

It's one of the shops on my list to visit some day. Not to mention I like the Wenatchee area. Do you know if they have their own dealer shirts? Its nice to see that Washington will be covered pretty good with Triumph dealers. Just need one in the Tri-Cities area, that would help with Eastern Oregon too.

Hey Soren - I bought my 04 BA at Condottas - good folks, good to do business with. Do stop if you get a chance. DK if they have Tshirts, but they did have a rat pack with some good dealer support.

Only drawback for me is the 5-6 hour one way drive to Wenatchee, etc. Beautiful area though - great rides in the Cascades. Worth the trip!
