Not cheap when new but more reasonable on the used market. You can buy a new entry level 883cc Harley for the same money as a Triumph America or a Japanese copy for less. The Harley’s a wise choice as it handles well like the Triumph and depreciates less but the Triumph America's still an ok buy – if you can find one. They’re designed for the American market and rare in the UK

Just saw your comments in the MCN BA review.
http://www.motorcyclenews.com/MCN/bikere...?&R=EPI-372
As for those around here that say Speedy's are best.....
http://www.motorcyclenews.com/MCN/bikere...?&R=EPI-369
Lets check out credibility (MCN) levels:
Here's what they say ...
Quality and Reliability ratings:
America 4 stars Speedmaster 3 stars
WTF ???
Quality and reliability descriptions - comparison: ___________________________________________
America "Build quality is well above average. Triumph understands the British winter and road salt better than most manufacturers so the Triumph America is quite durable"
Speedmaster "The Triumph Speedmaster is a fair weather motorcycle, a summer cruiser, so if it's used as such it should prove reliable enough ..."
WTF ???
Umm ... methinks that the man from MCN thought the pills he was taking were cough drops ...

1/4-mile acceleration 15.7 secs America 1/4-mile acceleration 15.1 secs Speedmaster
I guess we now know which of these speed demons is faster now.
I try to aggravate one person a day. Today may be your day.

Well of course, Thanassis! I mean "everybody knows" cleaning off all that english road grime and shining up black powercoating to a lustrous sheen is always gonna be a much tougher task than accomplishing this same result with chrome!!!
(yeah...actually I think you're right...that dude "might" have it a "little bit backwards" there, huh?!)
Yep! I have to admit if I lived other than in Southern California, where BTW, the average annual rainfall is about a quarter of what it is in England, I'd have probably purchased a much less shiny and chrome-laddened and easier to clean Speedmaster instead of the (then) "Bonneville" America, back in late 2001.
I mean, I can't begin to imagine how much it would have cost me over these years in just the acquisition of Mother's Polishing Compound alone if my residence were not sunny, warm and dry SoCal but instead, Ol' Blighty, and if I would have still purchased this very same and almost always extremely shiny BA, dude.
(sorry you blokes[and blokettes] over there on that island o' yours....I couldn't resist that one)

Yep Ian, You're probably right. And I suppose, ESPECIALLY in those areas of "the colonies" where all that sun can beat down upon those "colonists" heads, day in and day out and throughout the whole year to such a degree which COULD cause a whole mess o' problems, in and of themselves, huh?! Which of course was what probably brought about that old saying..."Why, that there boy's been out in the sun a little too much!" (sure is a good thing you're there in PA where you have kind'a similar weather to those gents over there in England, so you don't have to worry that much about being out too much in that troublesome ol' sun too, huh?!)

I don't know about that, there are quite a few here I believe have been out in the sun too long. Maybe it's the cold, could it be freezing brain cells?

So it's official! The America IS the way forward... ... according to MCN and Gina! Agreed the Speedmaster review seems pretty harsh though, apart from a few minor differences it's essentially the same bike?! Guy must have been having a bad day when he wrote that...

It has been my experience that such words usually come from fair weather riders. One usually blames ones shortcomings on whatever is handy and the bike can't defend itself.

To tell the truth, I never give much credence to what rider/critics say about any bikes. They often sound like white glove, candy a**es who abhor a little vibration and mechanical feel. I think if critics would be left to designing their perfect motorcycle, they would be perfectly mannered, would't fall down even if you weren't riding them, would be so quite you could hear the tread on the pavement and would have an instrument for every thing that could be measured, including seat foam rate compression! Get a real bike, leave the new car ride at home and ride!

...c'mon guys, we ALL make mistakes now and again ! It's not that the Speedmaster is a BAD bike, it's just that the BA is the BETTER Bike......
