Ok..I don't usually start a post myself, usually stick to the sidelines interjecting periodically, but I just had to ask all the parents out there: When was your "That can't possibly be my kid" moment?
I'll start. Mine came one summer day when we were preparing for yet another "shindig" (aparantly I'm not able to throw parties, so I'm permanently stuck in "shindig" status). It was all hands on deck and I sent Brad (now 15) in search of a drink pitcher that had made it's way upstairs. A task that would take the simplest minded chimp about 2 minutes. About 5 minutes later I'm starting to get worried. The layout of the house isn't that complicated..did he get lost? I go up to check what's going on and to my surprise (not really) MARK's SON (note the shift in blame)walking around in circles and bumping into walls with a bucket firmly planted on his head. My friend's moment came when at an end of summer party, her beloved son (same age as Brad) came stumbling out of the house with an inflatible party hat firmly planted on his head all the way down to the chin and fully inflated (effectively blocking all breathing and functioning capabilities). Needless to say...in both instances, some very unpleasant words were said.
So, come on parents...you know you've all got that moment in your children's lives when you look and say..."Oy, there mustive been a mixup at the hospital, cause my kid wouldn't do that."
Just as a footnote...aparantly my son is an extremely proud card totin member of the bucket head club because he's the one who keeps asking when I'm going to post this.

I wouldn't worry too much about this, Kim. That kid of yours and Mark's appears to be growing up in a household were not taking yourself all that seriously and realizing the humor in certain situations is a cherished family tradition...AND of which I applaud, BTW. I have no kids, but I'm sure if my mom or dad could somehow raise their arms from the grave and type, THEY'D have "a few" things they'd be able to post on this here thread o' yours. (but I'm also sure my wife could help you out if you'd care to hear about some of the boneheaded things her husband has done since he supposedly became an adult)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Many years ago my mother opined that parents should have the right to revoke their children’s birth up to age 18 or high school graduation, whichever is later. I’m sure she was thinking about my two younger brothers.
We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

As my yuteful mentor Tom Waits would say lighting up a Viceroy "Weell, it's story time again".
I was on a day long jeep patrol up Salt Creek Wash back in my NPS-Needles District days, circa 1980. Mid summer, red rock desert, 100dF, bouncing up a sandy bottomed canyon, taking in the sights and getting paid for it. Our district ranger had sponged a friend's 4-WD and taken his family and in-laws the same route. At the road's end was a picnic table under a scragley pinyon' pine and the obligatory, government issue, portable biffy slow-cooking in the sun.
While I stood visiting with someone about something, the ranger's wife's southern voice was heard in the still air "Ski-ip, YOUR SON just filled his pa-ants". I kept a straight face and continued down canyon. To maintain confidentiality I didn't repeat that story more than 30 times to my desert rat mates. I imagine my 3 hour ride back was more pleasant than the supervisor's.

Sick of the blonde jokes her younger sister LOVES to tell, my 17 year old declared (loudly) at dinner that "Make her stop!!! I am really tired of those stupid jokes" and "besides I am only blonde on the inside..."
One night while out to dinner, my 14 year old was telling my wife about our conversation in the car on the way to school that morning. At the end of her story she looked at her mother and said loud enough for several tables around to hear:
And then Daddy said "No sh!!t <beep>!" And then "Oh MY GOD I beeped the wrong word!"
We got lots of looks and chuckles from the surrounding tables.
"Sherlock" has become a favored bad word at our house...

I already shared mine in the "My Yutes.." thread. Is that what inspired you? I have to say my other son let me know when he was about 2... He would always try to make us laugh and get our attention. But in the course of watching us to make sure we were watching him, would sometimes walk into the wall.... It was really funny, in a "just gotta shake your head" kinda way! I have plenty of sympathy for those parents just getting started....glad my time is done. Now it's the revenge of being a grandparent I have to look foward to! Uh, Mark..... please give us a warning if you decide to breed, OK? later, Tom.
But, what do I know?

Don't worry about that...my License to Reproduce has already been revoked.
But I am a licensed minister and can legally perform marriage ceremonies!
