Alright you asked for it. Got the Bonnie out for a run this afternoon as it was over 60 and very pleasant. I think I've just learned my first lesson of 2008, that I'm not going to enjoy the rearsets and cafe set up; so it was back to the shop after 20 miles and onto the America which was a real pleasure after trying to hang on to the cafe'd smaller frame.
Ran a nice set of twisties and inclines up the mountain and got a real nice remark from my sweetie who said, "your bike has a distinctive sound like no other that goes by here and I could tell it was you coming home from the top of the mountain." Sure knows how to sweet talk a guy, doesn't she?

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort. Herm Albright (1876 - 1944)

OK...was out of town for New Year's and today was finally the day for the first ride of 2008.
A beautiful 60+ degrees and I hit I26 west to go to Lake Lure and on. But, 27 miles out my clutch cable disengaged from the pivot and there I was by Lake Blalock with minimal tools and only Hardlys passing by, none of whom stopped.
Well, it was my own fault..not having proper tools and having installed Brent's Clutch Dresser Kit the nite before...not too well as it turned out! Mea culpa!
Crouched by the side of SC9, I stayed calm and eventually re-connected the cable.
Off again on willing Kathie to Lake Lure, Chimney Rock, west on US64 to Hendersonville, a race on the I26 slab to Saluda to 176 and then.. the twisties down the Saluda Grade and back to Spartanburg.
The fix worked and the ride was spectacular.

Happy New Year to you all.

Still about 8 inches of snow on the ground last week-but the streets were clear enough to take the Black Pearl out for a Patriot Guard Mission on the other side of the city. She performed perfectly-a very satisfying day, after suffering several weeks of PMS (parked motorcycle syndrome)

Maybe tomorrow for me. Been warm last couple days and most of the ice is gone. We had about 8" of ice , it was snow that had gotten rained on and refrozen. But anyway supposed to be around 60 tomorrow so I might go out for a ride just not sure I want all the salt on my bike.

First ride was today Sunny and 75 here in Culpeper, Va. I've been so busy planning to add a bike to the stable, that I forgot just how inherently great these machines are. Don't really need a second bike, just want one ya know? Am I spoiled?

Anyway for those who are curious, thinking of an 08 Uly, but keeping the Speedy!

First ride of 2008 was Sunday to my local meet which is about 5 miles away, was surprised to see so many bikes out,and then back home again for lunch. Was going to go out in the afternoon but the heavens opened and the wind got up so put it in the garage and wiped the thick layer of salt off it. Oh I was on the Honda not the America..

My first ride was on the 1st. I went for a ride with the local Southern Carousers chapter. It was my first ride with them, they seam like a good group. I thank there were about 35 bikes in the ride. We did 90 miles and went to a house where this family puts on a New Years day lunch for local bikers. Looked like there were over 200 bikes there when we showed up. Along with lunch they had a DJ and gave away prizes. By the time the day was over I had put over 200 miles on the bike and have probably put another 300 on it in the last week and a half.

It is great to live in the south.

OK, I'll play. On Sunday, the temp got up into the 60's (F) so I took all 3 bikes down to the truckstop and back, about 12 mile round trip. Monday, I realized that what I thought was 18.7 trip miles on the OL's bike was really 187 total and it had never been filled since she got it. So, 2 more round trips to fill up 2 bikes. The Triumph had been filled just before coming home last time I was out on it, so it only had 18 miles on that tank. I got rained on a little, but at least it wasn't snow. That gets us to today. I had to go to town today, so I decided to ride. 25 miles or so and I was reminded how much windchill counts when it is only 42F out.

Well was busy today but did take both of our bikes a couple miles up the road and back. Then took a part off for a customer and sold it to him. Then I took out truck apart to fix the breaks, turned out it needed a wheel cyl so out on my bike I went again. Rode down to the parts store to get the parts I needed and rode home.

Well Gina, If you'd start using those new lifting and twisting guidelines that the Management has given you, THEN when you pick up and throw those unruly passengers off your train, you won't have these kinds of back problems anymore, young lady!!!

(and THEN you might be able to get out on that Triumph of yours and enjoy that "beautiful english weather" you people have over there)

Finally got out for a Ride! 1-8-08. The Weather here in Michigan has been pretty cold. I rode a few times in december right after I took delivery of my new bike. But could only muster a dozen or so miles before having to pack it in due to the cold (we're talking 36-40f on a good day). Well the past few days have been in the 60's but rainy. Yesterday it stopeed raining and dried up enough for a nice ride at night in the mid to high 50's. I put 40 miles in before it started to rain again. A nice ride into Royal Oak Mi, where a lot of bikers will usually hang out. Not this night. I was the only one out there! Got a lot of looks from people though wondering if I was crazy I am sure. All in all a nice ride and I love my new Triumph! Cant wait for the next nice and slightly warm day.

First ride of '08. Kids finally went back to school and had a little time on our hands so Mark and I went for a short ride that we call "the triangle". Took about an hour and a half, but it was enough for me to decide to take the bike to work. Packed a helmet for Amber so she could ride home with me (I work at her school). She loved the ride home and was trying to come up with places we could go on the way home.
