Hi Everyone

I have just taken a phone call from Martyn at the campsite, unfortunately, he has said he cannot accommodate us for the 2nd, 3rd, 4th May 2008.

But we can have the 25th, 26th 27th April i.e the weekend before. or the weekend after 9th, 10th 11th May.

He has said he will sort something out with us over the booking as some sort of sweetner.

I still hold your monies, so I am throwing this open for you to decide what you want to do.

You can either PM me if you want to talk about it or telephone me 01253 870979 BT Hub 05602235364 Mob 07977151118

Shell Island ?

http://www.shellisland.co.uk/shell/Shell.html

Nice place. You MUST have a tent, no caravans ! There is camping in the sand dunes, a bit far from the facilities but camp fires are 'tolerated'.

Beautiful scenery approaching from north and south. Access via causeway that gets covered when tide comes in. Nice beaches if you want a swim.

The reason given for not accommodating us was, he can take more money on that weekend than he can with us, as families will book the Friday and saturday and possibly the Sunday with it being a Bank Holiday..

I know it will not suit everybody and I can always write a cheques out to refund those that want. Or we can find alternative accommodation.

Another alternative is to keep the dates we have, and I will see if I can book a field locally, and organise loos etc.

We have a local farmer who has motorhomes etc park up..

I will throw it open to everyone to vote on this..

Thankfully I have not booked ferry over yet, I will leave it to you guys and gals over there doing a stirling job who know the area as to where we stay and whatever dates it turns out to be, it will be.

Funny how he kept saying 'no worries, just tell me what days you want' .. blah, blah ...

Quote:

So what does it matter to him who he has the money off?

The guy sounds a tosser.

I'm looking for some answers here guys n girls, had a quick look round the campsites again in the lakes and I don't think anyone is interested in Bikers.. I can write you all a cheque out and chalk it down to experience..

If we decide as a group to book the weekend before/after it would have to be the Friday/Saturday as we need to be riding home Sunday..

any other suggestions.....

I would prefer the same weekend, but somewhere else, as that fell on my weekend off.

And Funkle agree.....but tosser sounds a bit mild...I was thinking far worse....

Yeah, but the censorship software stopped me putting what I think of him.
I mean, how many times has Ray talked to him?
He knew the interest that had been generated ... he's a moron (the bloke, not Ray! ... )

I'm OK for the later weekend (10th/11th May).
Didn't he consider that we would get several small tents on each pitch and that way he'd make more from us/pitch than he would a family of 4. I've been a camper for 45 years and never heard of any site behaving so badly. Let's not allow a little setback to spoil the meet though eh !! So for me it's same site later, or different site (with some proper facilities) same weekend. I'll go with the flow.

Hi
well I'm somewhere else the following weekend, so either the weekend before or a field don't mind either

As for the Guy throwing away that many firm bookings who would definitly be spending money and there is the small point that we have paid a deposite and he has entered into a contract bet he would have squealed if we had pulled out

I need to go the same weekend as my colleuges have booked hols for the weeks either side.

After a little browsing i came across This webpage about touring in the Lakes. It mentioned This other campsite.
Here:
I suppose if somebody wants to negoitiate a few plots for us they could mention how well advertised their site is for bikers

That way it's still in the Lakes. I would still like to see the campsite that we were supposed to stay at and 'touch wood' hope is totally empty

Problem is the Shell Island site specifies no motorcycles...

And I agree, it is beautiful - I went there as a kid

Hi Ray,

I'm not too bothered which weekend you make it. It will be fine with me, just let me know asap so I can put it in my diary and I don't make any other plans.

just fired off an email to Shell Island to see if they will accept us. You never know.

I said that our members were from a broad range of occupations including, Police Officers, Fire Fighters, Naval Personnel and the Construction industry....I didn't include the Red Indian in case they were expecting the Village People !

Will have to be the same weekend for me Ray, had enough problems getting that one off!!!!

Will speak to Jane tomorrow, but think she has the same problem as me.

OK, by the sounds of what is being posted, we go for the same weekend, this will make it a little bit easier as everybody has booked this off anyway..

I will continue to hunt for a site, if anyone else wants to ring up as well here's the details you require

Friday 2nd May - 2 people - 2 bikes

Saturday 3rd May 43 people - 30 bikes

Sunday 4th May 27 people - 18 bikes

Let's give it a try..

Hi Ray,,
this sort of thing makes me so angry, the Lakes unfortunately, are full of tight fisted, money grabbing morons like Martyn. That camp site will make a fortune over the year, I know bank holiday is a busy time for them but why did he accept the booking in the first place. Then to have the cheek to say we can come the following week, personally I would rather give the money to a good cause than to line that tossers pocket.

Sorry Ray, you've put so much effort into what looks like being the best meet the UK has ever seen, it can't be spoilt by that dick head.

Whilst I'm thinking of ways to spoil his business over the weekend I'd rather do the same dates just somewhere different. I think we may have the same problem with any regular sites. I know a great site in Dent but they also need two nights minimum.
Could we do a local field and sort out some portaloos or simlar. I'm reasonably near to you so could help out organising if you want.

We cant let this bloke spoil what should be a great event.

Cheers Ray
Chris

What a bummer, espically after you put so much effort in to the event, respect for that Ray. I can do May 9,10 & 11 but not the last weekend in April.

Thanks again Ray for putting so much effort in.

The dates don't really bother me as, at the moment, I don't know if, when and/or where I'll be working.
As for venue, I'll have a look around but, in the meantime, I think we should put his site on a black list (and let him know)

Hi Ray
Sorry to hear the your plans have been ruined. Did the site owner/manager assume most would be stopping for a minimum of 2 nights?
April’s a no go for me....but May onwards is pretty much OK
If I don’t make the meet for whatever reason please donate my fee to BonevilleAmerica.com.
Thanks for all the effort you put into arranging this...hopefully things will work out.
Cheers

We are working on the same date, with different venues, so keep your fingers crossed we can find somewhere, otherwise all the hard work put in has just been a waste of my time and all yours.

Will sort that out for you John should the need arise

Ray, just spoke to Jane and Keith. Same dates, different venue gets there vote as well.

How about the Peaks?(central for everyone) or that pub we went to in the Dales?(good beer, and roads!!)

More thinking out loud.
Have had a brief look, couldn't find anything yet!!
Will have another look early next week, as I will only be checking posts at work, for rest of week.
Maybe Funkletrumpet might have some ideas, as it's his neck of the woods.
