not to be a dunce here, but are the tors quite a bit quieter than bubs??? actually, the only tos i've heard have been "over-hauled". the bubs ae o.k. for riding around the country, but a bit loud for extended highway use,,for my taste. still have factory pipes,, but i want SOME sound. any thoughts?????thanks

I have bubs and I don't think they're all that loud at highway speeds. They only get loud when you give it a sudden twist. At a steady 70-75 I don't hear them that much I guess it must be all behind me.
if life gives you lemons keep them because hey, free lemons.

Does anyone advocate using tors. I listened to the two examples (bubs and tors) on the video links and the tors sound pretty good.

You gotta go with what you like best. I know a couple people with TORs and love them. It's all personal preference.

I have long TORs on my America and like the sound they make. Loud enough to be heard but not too loud at 5:30 am to wake up the neighbours. I do prefer the BUB sound clips over the TORs but not enough to change. One other issue for me (strictly personal) is the fact that these are Triumph original replacement exhausts.

If you are looking at Bubs, you ought to at least check out Specialty Spares. Their exhausts were designed just for the America/Speedmaster and even come with a performance matched jet kit and AI removal kit. They perform great, and have a slightly lower throaty sound. You won't find any owner's that wouldn't recommend them. Here's a link: Specialty Spares

I have TORS on my America. I think they are a bit quiet but everyone who rides behind me reckons they sound great. On a still night my wife can hear me about five minutes from home (we live in town so I reckon that's pretty cool.) But at 5.00am in the morning I know I'm not terrorising the neighbours.

The TOR pipes are relatively quiet when compared to other aftermarket ones. There is a gotcha there though. Seems there are 4, maybe 5 now, different versions each louder than the previous one. The first ones were barely louder than stock and maybe a little tinny sounding.

When I first got mine I loved them. Then I started hearing stories how they were a bit restrictive compared to others which made me start doubting how good they were. Then I heard negative stories about chroming and quality which isn't a problem with the tors. Yes they may be a bit more restrictive than others but as has been mentioned, it depends on when they were bought. Mine for instance were on when I bought my bike and I have worked out they are nearly of the straight through variety, meaning a lot less restrictive than the tors made initially. So now I'm back to being happy again. Of course if I had squillions

I love me Bubs!!! But...when the time comes, I would consider the Spec. Spares, since they were my first choice back when I was ordering the bike. Unfortunately I was overseas on business (6 weeks) when I was ordering my bike. I had an e-mail address for the SS pipes but never got a reply. So, I went with the Bubs. But, I don't regret it. They sound great and I get alot of compliments on the bike and the sound. Happy New Year to everybody around the world!

Recently removed the baffles from my Bubs. They were about the loudest pipes out of anyone I hang out with, but they had this really painful background sound to them, even at idle. I don't know how to explain it, except to say that my eardrums physically hurt after riding the bike. Put some four inch beer can baffles in and man what a difference. Still crazy loud, but that physically painful sound is gone. LOVE IT. I'll still probably have to wear ear protection on long trips though.

I was running tor shorts for a while. They were fine but peer pressure and envy towards my my louder HD breathren pushed me to the BUBs. No I am much more secure and nobody asks me if my bike is running any more

I have TORs shorties which are loud and straight through , but my mate has TORs full length and cant see daylight through them , consequently , if comparing TORS , there seems to be two versions , and two subsequent versions of loudness. When asking Triumph , they tell me both the short and long TORs should be restricted and should not be able to see daylight out of either type.

the older shorties you can see through. I have a set that were on my SM. They are unaltered and you can see through them from one end to the other. They are kind of like the old glass packs I used to put on cars where there is an inner tube with packing around the outside but no offset baffles so you can see right through no problem.

This may or may not help: I have long slash-cut TORS on my 07. If you look down them, you can see straight through. It's hard to tell due to recording variations, but they sound nothing like BigT's TORS. They're more like Dmahn's modded pipes but not quite as harsh. If you can imagine Dmahn's TORS with the smoothness of Jeepspot's Bubs, it'd come close. (I'm only referring to the sound when they're at idle; I don't rev it when stationary.)

I'm running OEM's with the latter two baffles removed. Sounds a bit like a Ducatti, nice rounded sound with depth but not too loud. Approx on a par or slightly louder than TOR's though deeper resonance, fine running around town at ~3K rpm. Bike ran leaner, so I went with the Freak kit to bump air flow and jetting.
My advice, get a professional with the right tools for a surgical, tidy job. Personally I like the OEM's look and lustre, so very happy with this outcome. Good luck!

well on my long slash cut tors you can see straight through them there is a centre hole clear through the length of the silencer about 1" 1 1/2" diamater. i think these were brought around 203 204 . so seems there are 2 types then. unless the slash cut are diffrent to round ends ?
