Make sure they are long enough and don't cut the length too short. They need to be a couple of inches longer than your pants so when you're riding they cover the top of your boots without riding up. You'll be glad you prevented that cold air from getting up your pants.

I like chaps with a thin liner. Stay away from exposed zippers, as they can scratch paint. As others have said, keep them long. Look for ease of putting them on and removing.

These appear to be great for fending off sage-brush and cacti next time you're out on the range. Thermal underwear works great for keeping out the cold on a motorcycle. Couldn't help myself, Tom

I second the advice about getting the right length. I paid only $65.00 US smackers for mine a year ago and they are holding up well.
I use them only on cold mornings. A decent pair of heavy jeans or pants with long johns under and the chaps over does a yeoman job of keeping that cold azz breeze off your legs.
I got buffalo tan which I like as most every other rider you see is wearing black chaps. the tan ones break in nice and show the wear ....make you look a little less a RUB.

Naked leather is considered the best. It is drum rolled so the color lasts and doesn't bleed (usually). Look for good snaps and buckle hardware (brass or SS). One piece panels (no seams or patch work leathers) are top of the line. Cowhide is tops, with buffalo, goat and others being less desirable. Get ones with a liner- they are easier to get on and off and are far more comfortable as they won't grab your pants when you move around.
Fox Creek is the best I've seen ($189) and Hudson leathers comes in a (very) close 2nd for about $65 less ($125).

I have been debating wether to buy chaps or overpants. In doing some reseach on the web I came across this place B Bar Wholesale They seem very high quality, custom made in the USA and very reasonably price for what you get. Anybody tried them out? My other choice would be Fox Creek Leather They also seem very nicely made and have the overpants option too.

Chaps are without doubt the worst looking item of motorcycling clothing, on or especially off the bike. They are also the most practical and work great. I have a pair that I bought at a bike rally 10+ years ago, they still work great. They keep you warm and provide good crash protection in the event of a crash and slide (ask me how I know). The other good thing is that you zip them off when you get to your destination. This way you don’t have to walk around in leather pants like Jim Morrison all day. I just don’t get the tank top and chaps look? Thats a little too Village People for me.

I bought some T bags from leather up and they fell apart the first time we used them. They didn't stand behind them and only offered a 15% discount on another purchase. The leather was bad, the straps cracked.

Get the thickest heaviest pair you can find. I got mine from Art's Cow part's, they are what he called a winter weight. Unfortunatly he doesn't sell the heavy weight ones anymore. To many people are just wearing chaps as accesories so they want light weight ones.
