My '04 Speedy has made it to the salvage yards online inventory:

My Speedmaster at the salvage yard

I'm going to keep an eye on it for when it goes on sale. Might be a few weeks while they wait to have the title transfered to them.

If I haven't bought anything by the time it goes to auction, I may see about buying it back. I'm 90% sure all it needs is the rear fender and lights to be rideable.

Did they write it off for that amount of damage?

Well, the quote to fix was well below the amount where they would total it out. But the insurance guy was worried that they might find frame damage and that would cause the repair amount to go up considerably. Personally, I think they didn't want to deal with fixing a motorcycle.

Even the dealer that did the quote was speechless when I told them it was going to be totaled. I suppose I could have fought the insurance company a bit and had it repaired, but ultimately I decided to take the money and get something new.

On the positive side, the insurance adjuster suggested I file a claim with my own insurance company regarding the damage (cosmetic) on the left side from when my wife laid it down last year. This did effect the amount that they gave me for totaling (but not much).

After talking with my own agent, making sure I could actually file a claim on a vehicle that was already being totaled, and making sure it wouldn't effect my rates too badly (only $15 more a year), I decided to file a claim. After the deductible, I'm getting another $2k back from my own insurance company. I never would have thought about it myself if the other insurance company didn't mention it. Still feels kind of weird though...

So now I'll have a healthy amount to put down on another bike, buy one outright, or have more than enough to fix this one if I go that route.

Options, Options, what a cool opportunity to possibly buy back your bike and still get a new bike if you could work it out. I know I would buy the bike back and do the repairs and a thorough inspection.and sell it if I couldn't swing a new bike. I wish I could swing a second bike but don't want to get nailed to get it though.

Definately buy it back if you can, then buy another style of bike (preferably a Trumpet)and have two kinds of bikes to choose from in the morning. Only in America!

Nope...

My 03 was written off, as they suspected that the frame was bent.......£500 later and some parts from the kind people on here and from the local friendly dealer and she's back on the road.

I know I could have got over £500 just for the engine from the right place, but there was no way....

Gina 03 America - Pretty stock - except the TBS wheel... 06 America - missing, presumed in bits. With it's TBS wheel... 09 America - It's very blue....

How bad is it really? The pics make it look like just the rear fender is bent up.

That's pretty much it.

There is other cosmetic damage on the left side from my wifes drop last year, but I've been living with that for 18 months with no intention of fixing it.

mdaniels,
If you're interested in a used rear mudguard, let me know. I've got a black one salvaged from my accident earlier this year.

In case anyone in the Denver area is interested, my old Speedmaster is scheduled for auction on Jan 21.

Not sure if I'm going to go for it or not - still thinking about it, but I was pretty set on buying a new bike this weekend.

Oh man, if you can "buy it back" you could throw all the good stuff into a custom frame! SWEET
