I have a question for getting through Minneapolis/St. Paul. In a week, I'll be headed out across the Great Prairee of E. MT and Nort Dakota. Been through the "cities" numerous times, but is it better on I-694 or I-94 downtown?

Being a simple minded country boy, I generally take the belt way, put the truck on cruise control at a steady 35 mph, pull my hat over my ears, close my eyes tight and miraculously end up at the Mississippi River. Getting off the beltway back onto I-94 can be a real leap of faith. Depending on time of day, I actually like the downtown way better, old architecture etc. Last time I went that way, everything was under destruction and it took 3 1/2 weeks to come out the other side.

How does the I35 bridge being down effect traffic downtown now?

Personally, I'd take 694 around to the North. There's construction (always) around the 35E interchange, but barring excessive traffic that's the way to go. 94 thorough mpls and st paul is a mess from my perspective, but I live just north of 694, and work 3 miles from the house, so I don't have to deal with it much. The bridge collapse was on 35W just north of I94, the traffic has been rerouted around to a spur (MN280), people I work with think the traffic down there is a little worse since the collapse, but not to a huge degree. What time are you heading through? Makes a big difference on 694 traffic.

Good luck and safe driving on your trip, cheers Mike

Thanks for the insider information, I knew someone from the T-Cities would chime in. I figured 694 was better, but it's worth asking. Traffic around there can be kinda' gonzo. Barring snow, fog etc I'll probably coming through mid-late afternoon Saturday.

Friar; I'll be headed for Missoula then making a beeline East on I-90/94. It's a ~1,600 mile, 2 day trip. I normally shoot for the Dickenson area, where the "last tree in North Dakota" fell on my truck during a tornado/windstorm 4 years ago.
