I know someone did this before and posted a pic. Thats where my inspiration came form. I used Dupli-Color Low Gloss Black DE1634 high temp as suggested by popcorn. Color matches prety darn great. Here are the pics:

I have been considering that myself, I think Tom and I actually talked about it at some point over the summer. I think it was Phils bike I saw with painted carbs that gave me the idea.

Yeah i think with the speedmaster engine it looks really good when you paint the whole carb so they match they engine...its almost like they shouldve blacked them out in the factory.

the paint you used looks spot on in these pictures.

I removed the carbs and intake.
I removed the top caps and guts, taped off the openings and plugged the holes that I didnt want to get paint in. I still had my stock screws so I just used a couple to keep the bowls on. Taped off the carb heater, idle cable and the chokes. Did some clean up and probably sprayed about five or more light coats for even coverage.
I did pull the carbs apart and painted each one individually so that meant removing the braces, choke bar and some other bits.
Keep an eye out for the small springs on the chokes and a smaller spring and ball for the choke arm. Oh....theres also a spring that likes to pop off that goes in between the carb balance thingy and the thingy the push pull cables attatch to.

Wasnt that hard and not even that time consuming. The paint dryed (?) or dried (?) fast so had I started in the morning it could have been done and assembled by late afternoon...but I had other things to do so it took me a couple days.

I always wondered why Triumph didn't go to black carbs with the black engine. There's no doubt it makes more sense and looks better.

No pic of the entire bike yet. Shes in a state of dissasembly right now. I know my g/f has been in the process of fulfilling my x-mas wish list and that means more parts to be installed

Very nice job, but now I have another mod to do

Nah, sounds like most of us are on much the same wave length ie love doing stuff to our bikes. Particular when they end up looking brilliant. Great stuff and thankyou for showing us
