I really like this guys work. Steve "Carpy" Carpenter is his name. This is his web page. http://www.cb750cafe.com/There are some great pictures on here. Especially if you you are like me and have a real soft spot for 70's and 80's Japanese 4 cylinder bikes. Steve here seems to prefere the Hondas, but i think you could do this with just about any of the jap 4s. I want one

I'll admit I'm a fan of Carpy's work. He's the inspiration for my '01 Bonnie cafe project (still in progress).

I've been following his work for a while now. I have a 77 honda cb 550 that i'm working on and every time i think i have an original idea about the project i look on his web site and he's already done it...

Very nice stuff there, Mark! I can't remember if I've ever told you about this one guy I've run into numerous times out here in L.A. by the name of Larry, like you an ex-pat Brit, who bolted a CB750(early single cammer) engine into a '69 BSA triple's frame about 7 or 8 years ago, and he calls it the "Rocket 4". It's somewhat "cafed out" too, but has flat handlebar on it instead of the clip-ons.(he's about my age...GOOD CHOICE!!!) Seeing as how the BSA frames(or indeed most of the britbikes of the time) where considered superior to the Japanese frames, and the CB750 being a major step forward in mass-produced engine design, this bike pretty much took the best of each and he has a very nice looking and handling retro machine. It was also featured in Cycle World Magazine's "American Flyer" series a few years back.
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Hey Mark they look rather tasty, I have thought about this more than once with my 750, but I keep thinking it looks nice as standard. But if I ever drop it

Yep, got a Norman Hyde M bar on mine, there's actually such a thing as "too old for clip ons". ..at least in my case...

Im looking for an old bike for a project. Havent had much luck yet, but that could have something to do with the fact that i am looking for cheap, as in REAL cheap. Either a 70s Jap four or a air cooled beemer. Looking at these cafe racers sure does make me lean towards the Honda fours.
On another note, Fleetwood, Lancs. Where is that. Blackburn, Manchester? Where abouts are you, and you do you follow?

The answer to that is no, no football at all eversince I left junior school. I do watch the big games, cup finals, England etc.
If you grab a map, find Manchester come West to the coast and then head North you will come to Blackpool, then Cleveleys then Fleetwood..
