Did you put side covers back on?
Did you put cheese graters back on?
If no on the first why not hide the starter solinoid behind the diamond plate ,that I like the look of by the way, and cut a hole and hide the ignition switch behind it too with just the key poking through.
I like the hidden breather. cut the frame tab off that used to hold the side cover and I think it would look cool.If you are not using the side cover that is.
Either way cool idea and good job. Let us know how it works out after you put some miles on.

I am eventually planning on putting the covers on and cheese graters so that is why I left the tabs, ignition and solenoid exposed. I am actually going to make another one and fine tune it. Maybe make it a little wider so then the solenoid would go behind the box. I am kind of taking a liking to the diamond plate as well so I might not put the covers back on. We shall see. I have about 700 miles on it since I put the system in place. It runs really good. A lot more torque with the pod filters. As you know I have been screwing around with this whole vacuum/mixture problem with the carbs. There is a definite difference between the performance of the TBS needles and the stock needles. I am going to put the TBS needles back in this weekend, replace all the vacuum components again and put some gasket sealer on under the carb cap after I replace the needles and hope that I get somewhere with it...

I am not sure about putting sealant under there. If you do use it very sparingly so it doesn't smush in to where the diaphram is and hinder it's movement.

looks good. i love diamond plate. nice work. i agree with putting the covers on. always thought our bikes looked like something was missing without them

I actually like both ways, I like Toms bike (Brokenfixed) with no side covers or anything on it,totally open under the seat. But I like my bike the way it is with side covers and cheese graters. I wouldn't mind having another SM to do the low /no side covers look with flat black paint. If I crashed mine and stuff got damaged thats what I would probably do.

Id suggest a heavey grease like red axle bearing grease or vasleine. Makes a great seal and is not permanent like gasket sealer. If you need gasket sealer, you have a bigger problem that needs to be fixed and not band aided.
Dig the look. I went with the open look. Makes the bike look really long. Yesterday I had a Triumph guy asked me if I stretched the swing arm.

so whats the ignition side gonna look like without the battery there, but the upper cover piece? seems like it'd look a little odd with the absence of the battery
