I am planning a ride down to the South of France next summer possibly in July or August. Prob camping. Any one interested. I will be traveling from York and spending about 10 days or so. Get back if you fancy a trip down south and a bit of sun.

Go for it. It'll be a gas! I do a similar thing in June each year on my Speedy. Most recently Normandy ('06)then Barcelona ('07) and June '08 will be Venice. Don't miss the Millau bridge on your way down to the South (or back). It's a cracker ! Otherwise, try to keep off the Paeages, as they're a bit boring and quite expensive (sorry if that's a bit obvious). The A roads are much more interesting.
Of course, if anyone fancies joining me and my regular mate next June, you're very welcome too. Usually about 10 days and this time will take in the Grosse Glockner and Brenner pass, as well as an Opera at Verona's open air Roman Colloseum (did Aida for my 50th and just have to go back, even though I'm a Philistine). We camp and keep it as cheap as possible. We don't book anything in advance, except ferry tickets.
I would have jumped at the Euro rally, except I'm always away with the family in July/August.

Hey John have you heard of formule 1, they are cheap and it saves you taking a tent with you

Yeah, Formule 1 are fine. Only problem is secure parking for the bike overnight. The Formule 1 chain tend to be close to main routes and are an attraction for passing tealeaves. We sometimes stay in small rural hotels, especially if it's very wet. They often have a secure garage that they're very happy to let you use for free. We just take a book of campsites for the countries we're visiting and choose one to head for around mid afternoon, when we can estimate how far we feel like going that day. "Municipal" campsites in France are well run and have good basic facilities. They're cheap too!!

Looking forward to a chat in May Ray. No matter how many times you go to a place, it's always good to swap experience. That's how to find the best places (and avoid some of the less than best).
I used to work in Nantes and Lille, but that was on a Company expense account, so definitely NOT camping!! I've been camping in Europe though since the 60's. I'm originally from Ramsgate (a Man of Kent), so it was as easy to get to ML Europe as the nicer parts of UK. But to be honest, until recently, France was just somewhere to pass through on the way to somewhere else. I'm really getting to like it for itself now.

To save people going through all this thread, here is what is happening so if you want to join us please post in here..

UK Meet at Hollins Farm, Boot, in the heart of the Lake District, this is scheduled for 2nd 3rd and 4th May 2008. You will need a tent and the campsite charge £7.60 per person per night.

If you want to stop for one night that is fine, the majority of people are stopping on the Saturday night.

If you want to put faces to names of people on here, put your name down.. I will PM you with my address details to forward your payment to me. Please make cheques payable to Mr R Birch and Mrs M R Birch, not forgetting to put your Ba.com name on the reverse, Cheques to reach me before 1st January 2008

We are also in the process of having either a badge / patch made for this ocaassion or a T shirt, Gina (GinaS)is trying to sort a good price for these.

Let's make this the biggest UK meet to date..

Reading through the names of people that have booked I have never met at least 12 of these people, and I am really looking forward to it..

This is the latest, as you can see the majority of people are staying on the Saturday and Sunday night, which is the 3rd and 4th May. Only two people are stopping on the 2nd as they are having a run up to Scotland Sunday morning..

Up to now we have:-

25 America's/Speedmasters
3 other bikes
38 people in total

NOTE I will need details off you for the nights you are stopping posted in the UK Meet Eskdale/Langdale Lake District 2008 thread and a cheque from you to reach me before the 1st Jan 2008. I will PM you with my address..
