The Ace Cafe is moving into bike building, with the creation of a retro-look Anglo-Amercan successor to the legendary Norvin. It is planned to build 100 of the £20,000 ($40,000) machines, which will be powered by 100 cubic-inch S&S engines - the Harley-on-steroids motor with reputation for performance and durability, which has made it a top choice with custom bike specialists. The Ace Cafe has joined forces with custom bike builder Nick Gale to design and produce these machines in Nick's workshop, which is just round the corner from the Ace Cafe on the Old North Circular..

All we need another HD based bike. I can't count the companies that used those S&S engines of various incarnations that went bankrupt as fast as they appeared on the scene.

Are they going to build them on telly with the boss yelling at his kids?

Ace CafeWould you of thought instead of using a S&S engine they would of used a Triumph engine. When you think that the Ace was at the heart of BRIT IRON from 1938.

Yeah, I would have thought they'd based it on the Vincent if it had to be built with a V-twin. So many cool Norvins and Tritons to choose from and they don't even go with a cool Brit engine design. Shameful.

Well I emailed the Ace Cafe and basicly said why not use a Triumph engine and here is the reply I got Quote:
Hi Ray, Thanks for your email. Please be assured that should things work out well with S&S, Mark wants then to pick up with Triumph! Anyhow, the unique aspect of the opportunity of S&S is that they have invited us to build a bike using their engine, and to be one of their 50 chosen builders for their 50th Anniversary next year, and to attend Wisconsin and Sturgis as their guests in the heart of HD, chopper and bobber culture. We will be there with our Cafe Racer!

sacralige or how ever it's spelled! A place so predominantly a British icon using an S&S (HD) power plant is just wrong. I have nothing against HD or S&S in fact S&S makes some really cool stuff but Ace should be a Norton,Vincent, BSA, or Triumph power plant or at least one of the other Brit machines. Would be cool to see that redesigned Norton engine that never hit the market in there.

I'm looking forward to see what they come up with, could be cool, or it could suck. I would love to have a cafe'd big vtwin. Imagine the torque of a 103" motor and the handling of a cafe bike!

At least, they could have made it an inline 4 like the original Ace motorcycle. http://www.ace4.net/I believe that this was designed by the Henderson brothers before they went into the business for themselves. Not at all a bad looking bike for the 1920's.

Probably should have picked up the pieces of Kenny Dreer's failed attempt to resurrect the Norton. I'm still bewildered that Kenny was so close to making it happen. I saw one of his creations in Atlanta,WOW ! Mike

I saw some pictures online and wanted one of those Nortons immediately.

DARN if that isn't a GREAT IDEA, Mike!!! That's EXACTLY what they should look into doing!
(I sat on one of Kenny's dreams at the WSB races at Laguna Seca back in '05 and was VERY impressed with the bike...I agree...it's a cryin' shame those beauties appear to be stillborn at this time)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

agreed, the Dreer Norton is the best looking bike I can remember, period. I would gladly push my bonnie down a hill for one, and I love my bonnie.
