June, 2004. First bike. May not be the last, but she will NOT be giving up HER parking space in the garage. Right on 37k. So glad I chose a TRIUMPH.

I bought a '67 Bonneville in the spring of '72 - loved that bike and made it "my own". Parked it and never rode again after '81. Finally sold it around '97-'98. Bought my '03 TA in May of '03 and took delivery in June. It's definitely a keeper. I will never be without a Triumph again... it's too painful...

My wife Jo Ann bought me a birthday present 2 years ago - a 2005 Mulberry Red TBA. She was probably trying to get rid of me but I fooled her! It's my first bike and now has 10,000+ miles. I've loved every minute except for hitting that curve sign when I only had 500 miles on the bike. Congratulations Becky! I've thought of getting a Road King so Jo Ann would have a lounge chair in the back for the longer rides but I didn't think you were into riding double.

First Triumph was a 73 T140 Bonneville (first year for the 5 speed). Second was a 79 T140E Bonnie (last of the kick starters) and I still have it - great bike! Bought my 02 Bonnie America in March of 02 and the crowds still gather around it whereever I go.

I bought the first one produced in 1902. Well, that's what my kids think. I really bought my first Triumph on sept. 19 2004. On our 18th wedding aniv. That was the second right decision for that date.

I have ridden Triumphs since 1974, yet never owned one! I have had mostly Harley Davidsons since my family is a Harley group from the early years. My uncle won the Daytona 200 on a Harley in both 1938 and 1939. He is in the AMA Hall of Fame. So...family rides Harleys. Here is a pic of him: BUT...I have always loved the Triumphs and now am near to purchasing one. I am still trying to decide on which one. I was at Hermy's in Pennsylvania the other day and there was a really nice America with Bubbs pipes.

I've only had My Pretty Bonnie for 15 months, but I am more bonded with this bike than to any of my previous ones. I beam when I talk about her like I do when I talk about my daughter. I was on a 1st date with a man on Saturday night...dinner, talking, conversation turned to bikes...he started to make fun of my bike, asking when I was "going to get a real bike" ( meaning an HD like he rides), making little whirring noises in imitation of an exhaust. I pulled out my wallet, dropped $40 on the table for my meal, told him the date was over, and left the restaurant. I look out for my America and she looks out for me!

My firstI later owned a Triumph was 1967, or '69 Scrambler, can't remember for sure. Bought in 1970. I later owned a '69 Bonneville in 1971. Both handled well, leaked oil and were sometimes a challenge to start. Had a kind love/hate relationship with them.
Now have a 2004 Speedmaster purchased in September 2007. No oil leaks any more but still handles pretty well and is much easier to start. Still planning what all I'm gonna do to her over the winter.

First Triumph was a 1970 T100C purchased in May of 1970. Lots of Brit bikes in between. My 2002 Bonneville America was delivered in January of 2002.

Paula, maybe next time run a background check on your date to see if he has any history of ED, ooops, meant HD...

I still love HD's but the nostalgia of a Triumph is getting the best of me. I am leaning toward Triumph's even though they don't carry the muscle of the big Harley's. If I was to get another Harley, it would have to be a vintage one. Everyone and his brother own HD's and think they are badass on them even though alot of them have never ridden more than a year or so. Real riders know real riders and what a bike is really all about...freedom.

I regularly out run an 01 or 02 Night Train thats BB,6 spd trans and a dyno tune kit. So I wouldn't say there is much in the way of muscle there. Just weight and noise.

Uh...that used to be true BD. See: Triumph Rocket III 2300cc Cruiser. It eats Harleys for lunch

I wasn't referring to the Biggest, Baddest Triumph! I meant the Bonnevilles. I really think that Rocket's are fantastic bikes, as well as the other speedy new style Triumphs. Should have been more clear. I am surprised that you beat a Night Train. Must have been bad riders. And I can hardly believe a Bonnie can pull against an XLH1200 Sportster, but maybe its true. The Bonnie is definitely lighter.

never came up against the XLH1200 but the Night Train I have out run more than 1 with different riders. I don't fly by but I do slowly pull away. The one stock one I do pretty much fly by with ease the other 2 are close to me.All 3 are FI models. I have a friend with a 76 Shovel I can't get away from though. But his Shovel has small block Chevy valves, manly keepers, Wiseco 10.5:1 pistons,S&S wheels stroked (can't remember how much) 3 1/2" open belt Revtech trans. among a few other things.

Have owned 61 and 63 Bonnevilles in late 60's, highschool.
Presently own a 76 Bonnie, 03 America and a 04 Thruxton, all bought new. Got the America 12-24-02.

August 2004 26,000 miles later..no regrets, have no plans on selling her either! As to Sporties and HD's in general? I can pull away from them all! (At least all that I have come across.)

I'd love to see a Bonnie pull away from an XLH 1200. Then I would REALLY have my decision made. It would be a Bonnie, no doubt. The 883's are chick bikes at best. Turds. I wouldn't buy one, but the XLH 1200's are a blast to ride.

Ralph Now I am at 185 lbs maybe that gives me an edge, but every Harley I have ridden with cannot keep up with me from the start or on the highway. I have a buddy with an 1980's 1200 something He can make it a challenge but I stick right with him.
But bar NONE no Harley keeps up with me (I don't count Buells because they really are not truly Harley in design) But I can smoke them all for handling in the curves and twisties. Now maybe they are all a bunch of Posers rather than riders but that has been my experience, they have tried and failed. There has only been one bike That has left me in the dust and I tip my hat to it, an Iron Horse cruiser with a 117 CI S&S Of that I am not ashamed!
The America is nimble and agile. Best ride I have ever straddled...ok I would take a Rocket if someone would give me one but before I buy one of those I am going to do a major Big Bore renovation and see what Blue can really do!

Don't mean to hijack this thread but if you look at the stock horsepower and torque of the HD's(except Screaming Eagle/CVO models) you'll see that they are not very powerful. Plus our bikes are lighter.......Angelis

Good stuff. I like to hear that the Bonnies are so capable. I am really leaning toward the Triumph and all this is leaning me more. Even though my family is big on HD, I tend toward individuality. My biggest problem with HD besides the price is the fact that in the US, everyone and his brother rides one. I always like to be different. That's also why I raced a Cannondale MX bike when they were still in business and even though everyone told my how slow they were, I won the championship on one and holeshotted and led nearly every race I was in. So, slow depends on the rider as much as it does on the machine.
