I'm getting ready to purchase an America and I'm confused about exhaust choices , I want the meanest gutteral sound I can possibly get, I mean like a 500 pound bull frog that hates life, Like good & evil colliding underneath my rearend like the Baphomet's battle cry , what would be your recommendations?
Thanks , 6.

I used an old used set of sreaming eagle slip ons, gutted what was in them, they fit right on. there short on the bike, but that is the look i was going for, and you can here me in a pack of harleys, stock mufflers are a dime a dozen, most i Think are easy to drill out. Ive debaffeled a couple of H-D mufflers and they sound awsome. Quick and easy if you like the look Dave

Sceptres are not the loudest, Wendy and I have gutted stock pipes and they are louder than my friends Sceptres. Nice deep tone too. That being said I have heard louder, fishtails are probably at the top but have that crack that'll hurt you! The JCW pipes are up there and pipes like Tom )Brokenfixed has on his, didn't like the tone on those but they are LOUD.
From a cost stand point the JCW or gutted stock are the least cost.
I also removed the cross over pipe from our bikes and that doesn't effect the loudness much but it does seperate the exhaust note so that you hear each cyl. better instead of the sound being blended.

True enough, unbaffled pipes will always be louder. Is straight drag pipes the sound your looking for? Check local laws, see what will pass inspections, and go from there.

LOL@ inspection. Both our bikes have the inspections that were on them when I bought them. My BMW was last inspected in 1985 and my chopper had a sticker slapped on it once by a friend of mine in 1993 when we went riding.I have never been hassled about it and figure if I get pulled over for it now I saved a ton of money anyway if I compare the cost of 1 ticket to the cost of decades of inspection costs. There are even a couple cops here that will stop me to talk about my antique bikes and either never notice the sticker or don't care.

The Epco Stainless pipes are just a little short of headache loud. They have a nice snappy growl to them and, being made of stainless steel, you don't have any plating to worry about.

Here in MO we have to get it inspected every year that we want a license plate for it. Just another fee to pay the man.

Well yes, here too we are supposed to get it inspected but no one seems to care so I don't bother. If I was getting tickets I would be sure to have it inspected.

The DMV regulates. If it went on the honor system nobody here would care either.

I've had a couple friends pulled on separate occasions because the cop "couldn't see" the inspection sticker.

I wanna be a hijacker too. As Dave says, you have to get an inspection to get tags here. But, you can get two year tags, which means bi-annual inspection if you go that route. The guy who did my last inspection really liked the bike. He handed me the inspection sticker & said "I know you probably don't want that on your bike". This, even tough it's supposed to be permanently attached (left fork), so you can't have a single sticker for more than one ride. I put it on anyway. Inside the side cover.
Said Molly to James, that's a fine motorbike.

I apologise for the highjack too but I have a question about the inspection thing. Here I get my tag then have to take it for inspection so no one ever knows if you do it or not unless you get pulled over. Are you guys saying you have to get your bike inspected before you get a tag?

I am not a Democrat since I vote for who I think will do the best job not by what party they belong to or don't belong to. I have always thought property tax is wrong weather it be house , land, car, bike anything. To me it's basicly like buying something then paying rent on it as long as you own it.
Now I understand what you say about having to get inspection. I think it is actually a good idea since it ensures everyone gets an inspection. However making everyone do it in the same month is assenine! I too put my firearm rights near the top of my list. When guns are outlawed only outlaws will own guns. I don't however base my decision on any 1 sole item.Since I am all legal I have no issues with efforts to keep guns out of criminal hands. I have a concealed carry permit and had to go through the sheriff to get it, including background check.

I know most people are level headed, its the ones who think gun control means the government takes their guns or says they cant have them- those are the ones I'm talking about. I personally dont own guns, just a pellet rifle for squirrel sniping. I got enough when I was in the army

Sceptres look and sound good but like most exhaust are too expensive in my book. Stainless is nice though since it will never peel since it isn't plated. And any scratches can be polished back out.
I still vote gutted stock since it's free and is loud and deep sound.

I got a pair of bubs and pulled the baffles in 'em, now their so loud they hurt my ears at idle. Its like I can feel my chest and ear drums pulsing with the sound. I imagine soon I will lose my hearing completely. I can still hear them even going seventy miles an hour pretty clearly. I would imagine that the whitneys, which are straight through pipes, would sound similarly loud, and it's a lot more cost effective than gutting a nice set of Bubs. If I had it to do over again, I'd just get the whitneys. As it is, if you read the other thread, I'm trying to figure out a way to tone them DOWN just a wee bit, at least at idle, as they are brutally loud at this point. They would definately rival about any harley for sound.

In Texas they are taking into consideration the value of the motor vehicle and they deem the value and then charge 6-8% depending on their mood it seems , so let's say your vehicle is worth 14.9 * 8% = 1192.00 , A 25 year old Buick they charged me 300 bucks for saying it was worth 2700.00 bucks , regardless of condition. Die in a fire taxman , I day dream you dead.

All of the pipes available for our bikes are nice, Staintune, Sceptre, Bub, Thunderbike, etc. All are beautiful and sound loud and mean. None more so then my carefully gutted stock Speedmaster pipes. Generally, when I ride with others who shelled out the cash for customs, they throw up when they hear mine and realize my cost. That said, I did pick up a spare set in case the man tries to beat me down. Living in a police state sucks!

I agree with Paul, I love my gutted SM pipes and Wendy loves her slash cut gutted stock America pipes. Same reaction here too, when I ride with a couple guys I know here they regret paying for the Sceptres. They are nice and made of stainless but very expensive.
