I know this sounds too simple but I'd like clarification.
There was a uni filter on my used speedmaster so I don't have any instructions. How do I oil it? Do I lightly spray the inside of the filter or the outside or both? The snorkel is that piece over the filter with the four screws, so if i t was taken off wouldn't I spray the inside of the filter? thanks in advance.

lightly spray the outside and the snorkel is the little rubber tube sticking out of the cover with the 3 screws.

Go buy the UNI filter cleaner kit. You spray it with the filter cleaner (a solvent), then rinse it - inside and out. (Yes, you do have to remove the filter from the air box.)

After the filter is clean and dry, then spray the inside and out with UNI air filter oil, work it into the filter media, wipe off the excess, and install it.

The directions are on the kit box, and on the individual spray cans. The kit should last you several cleanings. (several years?)

I neglected to say to work it into the foam. I imagine spraying both sides helps do that.

I concur to all. Don't get K&N filter oil. K&N filters are made of gauze, Uni is foam. they are different mediums requiring different viscosity of oil. I made that mistake because I was cheap and had a bunch of K&N oil from my cars and just bought the UNI for the bike and did not want to buy more air filter oil.

You shouldn't have gotten oil in your carbs unless you over oiled the filters.

Don't need any special oil for the foam filter, I used to dunk the dirt bike filters in sae30 motor oil then sqeeze as much back out as I could. Always worked just fine. Before re-oiling I always washed in hot soapy water too. Any light spray oil should work fine for you, but the Uni oil if you want to spend the extra cash but no need to.

I oil mine by puting the filter in a plastic bag & pouring a little oil in & then squeeze it around.
If there isnt enough oil, just add a bit more.

I dont end up with my hands & floor covered in filter oil
