I have recently purchased a 2004 Speedmaster. It has customised pipes and I was wondering what is the best fuel to run it on. We have 91, 95, 98 here.

I'm sure one of your fellow New Zealander's will chime in, but I am going to suggest checking with the owners manual or a dealer, and then run whatever it runs best on.

It looks like your fuel rating system is different than ours- we have 87, 89, 91 most places. I run 91 because, for some unknown reason, I get better gas mileage and less popping with it.

any good synthetic motorcycle oil. Amsoil 20-50 is what I run. I run the mid grade gas here in the USA , not sure what fuels you have available there or how they are rated.

95 RON would 89 octane in the US and that's the grade I use.

The owners manual says to use the middle grade petrol. The higher octane stuff will just waste your money until your bike has a lot of miles and enough carbon buildup to raise the compression.

Thanks for that sounds like the 95 will do. And yes I do spend alot of time polishing the bike. It looks so wonderful.

Hi Naomi,

Sounds like the ratings for fuel in kiwi land is the same as over the ditch. I generally have been using 95 but have done comparisons between it and 98. Like another post before, you get no real advantage to buying the more expensive 98 as my comparisons show the KPL is much the same.

Regarding oil, I have decided to get Motul 5100 . Whilst it is a semi syth oil, from what I have been told, buying anything more expensive is a waste of time unless you are racing your bike such as responding to Pty 1 patients .

In that case you could tryThis one is fully synth oil but to me it would be over the top so to speak.

As far as finding a distributor, luckilly one of our forum buddies gave me a link for here in Aus. As it turned out though, one of my bike shops here sold it anyway. Appears it is a very popular oil for bikes as it is designed for both engines, gear boxes and clutches. Can't beat that eh
