Matt,

Holy smokes, is that 300 dollars yikes!!!!!!!!!

I upgraded Verizon service last spring from a dependable, but archaic bag phone and the new digital phone was <$10. I don't want to know what a $300 phone does???

Wait a second. I'll send you this one for a mere $200 .

Sorry, good luck

Its 300 if you do not extend your contract. Since I just extended mine 2 months ago to get my new phone I am kind of out of the loop on that.

ask about a 1 time upgrade because you are not happy with the equipment. AT&T does that. You are allowed to upgrade if you don't like the phone but only once per contract but also get a discount after a certain amount of time if you want something different. I would think Verizon must have something like that,a customer loyalty thing. AT&T sent me to a special web page with a password thats only good for 30 days to pick a new phone.

There are a lot of phones for a decent price on eBay that have been unlocked and can be used with your provider. All you need to do is pay for a new SIM card from Verizon.

I've never seen any $25 Razr phones but bought one for my son for about $90.

Throw all the DANG things out. Why is it so important that we are all accesible 27/7? Geez! Buy the old disposable type to keep in the cage or on the bike for emergencies and otherwise enjoy the peace and quiet people.

Oh and Matt,

Sorry but every Verizon phone I have is AFU (I'm tough on phones) But I'll keep smashing them to find the sim cards

Verizon is CDMA technology which does require a sim card.
ATT, Cingular,T-mobile are GSM technology as is most of the world besides Japan and they use simcards.

Read the novel "Cell" by Stephen King, and you won't even want one anymore.

I had the same problem this summer, a month after I got a new phone I fell off my bike onto the phone. (I didn't like the new phone anyway) I went to ebay and bought the same as my previous model(which I really liked) The seller was great, I even bought the wrong model and contacted him quick enough and he upgraded me very cordially. The sellers name is encorecellular, he has an ebay store and auctions. I don't know him other than my transaction, but will recommend him and will do business with him on my next phone need. Good luck.

Nope, just what the day feels like when I have been forced to carry one for work.

According to the "Wise Geek"( I didn't know there was such a person)
In the United States only GSM phones use SIM cards. The removable SIM card allows phones to be instantly activated, interchanged, swapped out and upgraded, all without carrier intervention. The SIM itself is tied to the network, rather than the actual phone. Phones that are card-enabled can be used with any GSM carrier.
The CDMA equivalent, a R-UIM card, is only available in parts of Asia but remains on the horizon for the U.S. market. CDMA carriers in the U.S. require proprietary handsets that are linked to one carrier only and are not card-enabled. To upgrade a CDMA phone, the carrier must deactivate the old phone then activate the new one. The old phone becomes useless.
Roaming: For the most part, both networks have fairly concentrated coverage in major cities and along major highways. GSM carriers, however, have roaming contracts with other GSM carriers, allowing wider coverage of more rural areas, generally speaking, often without roaming charges to the customer. CDMA networks may not cover rural areas as well as GSM carriers, and though they may contract with GSM cells for roaming in more rural areas, the charge to the customer will generally be significantly higher.
The chief GSM carriers in the United States are Cingular Wireless, recently merged with AT&T Wireless, and T-Mobile USA. Major CDMA carriers are Sprint PCS, Verizon and Virgin Mobile. There are also several smaller cellular companies on both networks.

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort. Herm Albright (1876 - 1944)
