I would appreciate any thoughts concerning the proper amount of feel and/or road feedback my stock Speedmaster front springs should give me.

It seems like there is very little road input transfered to my bars and feedback to my hands at freeway speeds above 65 mph. My front (metzler) tire doesn't "feel" planted to the ground well enough (even when I know it is) and it is a little disconcerting to me IMHO.

I think I read something about this subject in a motorcycle magazine when they were comparing the Bonnevilles to another bike.

Would aftermarket front springs increase the road feedback to me? If so, any recomendations? I always ride solo if that makes any difference.

Thanks in advance,
Bob

the stock fronts are very soft. go with progressives, best 55bucks you can spend. it will help you get a bit more of that feel you want

+1 on the Progressives. Best upgrade dollar for dollar you can make on these bikes; bonus round=you can increase the oil weight to give you a better "contact feel". Lots of folks here report good results mixing 10 and 15 weight 50/50 when changing the springs.

EXACTLY!! I did the mixed oil thing as stated above and now really like the feel of my front end SO much better - plus I don't get the big nose dive when I hit the brakes like I used to. Go For It, you won't regret it.

Now all I need is to be able to shell out the bucks for some good rear shocks...

I have Progressives on my Bandit, and Progressives and the gold emulators (got brain lock, cant' remember the name!)which was a bit overkill..on my Harley Softail Deuce, which is not know for handling..
but the handling on both bikes was vastly improved...
the Bandit stopped nosediving, it was kinda like a stock SM, and now the Harley rides like a truck, but it literally stays glued to the road... the Metzler's helped too....
The SM is next...when I get my other bills paid up! (
I'll put progressive rear shocks on too....

Thanks all for the advise about adding the Progressives.

They will definately be my next purchase. I think I will try mixing the 10 and 15 weight fork oil also. Just curious, (and I'm sure the new Progressive instuctions will show me) but does the closer wound end of the spring(s) go towards the top or the bottom of the fork tube(s)?

Thanks again,
Bob
