Had new coil installed on my BA about 1000 miles ago. Running great until today. Does not want to run unless choke is pulled out half way or all the way out. Backfiring bad an popping bad. Dealer is 4 hours away so I need help !!! Thanks,

Man, sounds like either a vacuum leak or a gas problem. Do a very close check all the rubber caps and the carb mount boots. If you haven't done anything lately, pull the gas line off the carb and put it in a can, open up the petcock and see if gas flows well. Consider yanking the little filter between the carbs.

The first thing I would look for is that a wire hasn't come disconnected from one of the carbs.

Checking your fuel flow is a good idea, but SKIP probably has your answer. It sounds as if you've lost one of the cylinders... most likely due to a faulty, or disconnected, plug wire (or hot wire to the coil).

Check to make sure you haven't lost a plug off the carbs.

Since it's trying to fire, it is almost a sure thing that a wire has come loose. The coils are under the fuel tank bolted to the frame. PM me if you need help working out how to take the tank off to look.

Thanks to all of you. I just went outside an started checking for the black caps an discovered that one is missing. Now is that a dealer item only or can I use something simular to cap the hole. Any idea's. I think this will solve my problem. Thanks a lot,

You can get vacuum ports caps at any auto parts store. Get the thick walled ones...

Thanks Phil. I really appreciate the help. Its hard to believe that the cap came off. I just wonder if some jealous HD rider may have removed it.
Thanks again,

Stash, The vacuum caps may blow off on a hard deceleration, especially the thinned walled ones. A sure sign of a vacuum leak is a lot of popping that appears suddenly. I had some thinned walled squirrel rubbers on and knew immediately when one blew offâ€â€thanks to this site--. Members have advocated tacking on the squirrel rubbers with a bit of RTV sealant or even using a zip tie.
In addition to checking the squirrel rubbers, check periodically, with a wrench, the header pipe to cylinder nuts. These will work loose.

Any consensus on what SIZE vacuum cap to get? I got some nice thick ones, but they aren't quite as snug as I had hoped...
