Not too shabby at all. If it was me, I might add gators to the upper forks too (just for looks).

Keep the chrome one, it goes well with the chrome side covers.

Interesting that the tank does look smaller/shorter than stock! I thought they would be about the same size. I think it looks great by the way.

Au contraire! The chrome chain guard distracts from the chrome engine covers.

I think I have to agree, I will swap out to the black one. I still have the stock one that I removed in 02.
also, what about the bar ends, the bars I am using have no attachments in them. so currently they are open. iso grips would solve this problem , just not sure that is what I want here.

Are those ThurderHeaders? How do they sound? Hows performance? what is the part number and from where? How you like them?
So many questions I should wait for the write up.

very nice - I'd go with the black guard. what's the cover to the rear of the carbs? Are you happy with the fork neck area?

yes they are thunderheaders, I got them used from a local bike shop. they are a set from a harley bagger that has the exhaust mount on the bottom of the bags. the deep and throatty , nice and loud. runs well and revs quickly.

I put the battery under the seat and made the side covers to expose the filters. I think I may paint the upper and lower yoke ( trees ) black.
the headlight is side mounted now so I do not think an upper gator would work.

Talk to member ezcue, he made me some threaded brass inserts on his lathe that I epoxied into my bars (aftermarket, no inserts...) Now I have my union jack bar ends from brent back on Or you could esperiment with some sort of expansion bolt or something to hold it in there.

Very cool & nice work. About time you get a loud exhaust! I'm trying to get some riding in next Sat or Sunday. Want to break that baby in? (guess it's well broken in, how about putting some miles on it!)

One other thing.... If you elongate the fender mounting holes, you can get it to hug the front tire a little better

Awesome job Pete. I'd add a Pingle and maybe some red plug wires (just for a little color).

Pete, I really like almost everything you've done here...the headlight shell looks good painted(and thanks for keeping the headlight bezel chrome...smart move)...the standard Bonnie tank is positioned perfectly and looks great on the BA here...the gaiters are a perfect touch, too. Yep! Just about everything.
Everything BUT, now that you have this BA looking a lot more "standard", that little bitty thin seat you've got on it makes it now look a little...ummm....swayback. Yep! That's the word I'm lookin' for...swayback. IT'S TOO LOW for the rest of the bike now.
Question: Exactly how SHORT are you, anyway??? What?! You can't touch down both feet without that particular seat on that otherwise GREAT LOOKIN' BIKE???
(as you can tell, I'm not a big fan of those seats....sorry)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Great looking bike, I would have to agree to switch back to a black chain guard and while you are at it I would loose the Foreman grill and go with a T100 sprocket Cover or a new America cover, that would look alot better. Just My opinion though, Nice Bike!

For the bar ends you could use ISO Grips thay have ends that attach right to the grip. Also hardware or plubing stores carry press in chrome plugs that are fairly cheap, I get them at True Value.
I like the look but personally to me I would like a flat black chain guard but its a matter of taste as to what you want not any of us. Weld one up out of chain and paint it flat black.
I like the look of the shorter tank too looks like it would leave room to add a springer with no worries of the forks hitting the tank.

I got my bar ends off a BMX bike...theyre a little smaller diameter on the inside clamping piece, so i just wraped them with a strip of rubber and they fit great.

Lovely work, Al. Have you considered a traditional sprung seat?

Those cheap foam Grab-on grips come with a black plastic bar end that slips over the bar end before you install the grip too.
Could get a rubber expanding plug from the hardware store and put a polished stainless washer with a chrome spike nut on it to replace the outer washer and nut or even some kind of cool medalion to replace the outer washer.

What really strikes me is that you have no bags on her. I am so used to seeing her as a dresser thusly:

Take a 3M pad to that shinney chrome and dual it out.First try it on an old piece of chrome on something else and see what you think.I did it to several chrome pieces on my Speedmaster and I like the look. For example you can try it on the stock chrome fuel cap and see what you think.

Pete what about the vintage type grips? gran tourismo or "football" have closed off ends, and might go better with the look than the chrome ones. G

Everyone reccomends scotchbrite or 3M, but what grade? I was just at the store getting some 600 grit sandpaper, and there is definitely more than one option for pads.

We use at work the rectangle 3M pads, reddish brown colored, maybe 4"x6".Try it on something not on your bike first to see how it works.I personally like the way it dulls the chrome and makes it look like it is older.

Hey Pete, thanks for the info. What speedo is that? Nice setup with the idiot lights built in. Did you decide on bar ends/grips? If it helps, the grips I have are those retro football style ones from ebay. I had to cut the ends out to put my bar ends on, so stock they cover the hole...
