Folks

Last year, at about this time, my speedometer died and had to be replaced. It was still just in my first year so the warranty covered it. Last night, as an anniversary treat, this NEW speedometer died! Unlike last time, when just the speed indicator went out, this time the speed indicator, odometer and trip meter are dead.

So, the question is, are there are obvious checks I should make before taking it to my dealer? I admit all I have done is wiggle the wires (hey, did I ever claim to be in the slightest bit mechanically minded?) but are there suggestions of other actions I might take?

Hi, you could disconnect the speedo cable where it connects to the back of the speedometer and see if the inner cable has broken by trying to gently twist it, or if it is broken, you might be able to pull it right out of the outer sheath!

Yes, the speedometer is the large round chrome object with all the numbers on it located just ahead of the handlebars! You should have one!
(Well, it made me chuckle, anyway!)
Try un-screwing the cable off the head and check the inner drive cable. They've been known to break.

Thanks folks. I followed SpeedRacer's directions and found that the inner cable is indeed not connected. I think a trip to the dealer's is in order.

Hiya Sigmund
