I know a few people who have had ducatis... the seats very uncomfortable and the electrics are poop in the wet. They do 'look' nice though.

Try one of these Aprilia Mille. I have an older 04 model. Superb bike! (My previous sportsbike was a Ducati 998 - all round I much prefer the Aprilia).

hyes i have ridden triumph's sport bikes, and as sad as it is to say, I am less then impressed. The 675 is a very nice, very well handeling, powerfull bike. But I am looking in the liter class. And I want something that will hold its value.. Not looking for a striped down naked bike ( have 2 in the barn) nor am I looking for a lost in the crowd bike.. Not like i can get it any time soon. With Christmas comming, as well as trying to get the new shop up and running money will be tight.. But maybe just maybe I can get it, put it in the show room of the new shop and tell Jess it is a customers bike? Afterall she still theinks the 02 Springer softail i have in the garage belongs ot a customer lol...Well I think she has figured it out, but chose to pick a better battle. That or she is going to buy a new car and use thast as fuel lol

Soren,
That MV Agusta Senna edition is a real masterpiece. I don't know if you have ever seen it up close but I have ... and I'm still walking a bit funny.

I'd beware of the Ducs -- they're really gorgeous, but my friends with 'em warn that dealer service every 6k miles gets very expensive very quickly. Beware.
What about Buells? They're certainly not "common," but the price tag is more reasonable than most Italian scoots, and they have loads of personality.
Barring that, see if you can find an old Sprint 955. I rode one a few weeks ago and SWEET SUFFERING JEBUS that thing is fast. She'll break the ton in 3rd gear, no problems, and the engine is smooth as butter. That, and the seating position, while very forward, is still comfortable enough that you don't feel too cramped.
That, or check out the KTM Duke and SuperDuke (I lust the new Duke 690 in a deep and unhealthy way), as well as the BMW K1200R or S, which provide 160 horses of love each. Again, Hand Of God acceleration.
But my money would be on the Buells.

I'd stay away from the KTM. Too many changes are on the way in the next couple of years. Company is still posturing themselves in the streetbike industry. I'd second Bedouin's suggestion. If you ever have a chance to ride the Mille, you'll wear a smile. I would definitely purchase a used model, as the Piaggo group is starting to rely on their Far East (Taiwan, China, India) plants to mass produce Italian based designs on all thier new models. Let's hope they leave Guzzi alone, but probably not. I've ridden the 1098 Duc and thought the Mille was a much better bike. However, unless you plan to head to the track once in awhile and like smooth power,, the MV Augusta just blows them all away. I literally was shaking from fear/excitement/joy after riding this artwork. What a kick ****** bike, and you can relish in the fact that it will smoke anyone, as long as you don't mind the ragged edge.
Personally stay on a SM or BA and live longer. Sportbikes are for the track and teenagers with no sense of fear.

There is a tri color 1098 sitting at my local harley dealer's showroom. I was impressed with the way it sat and how light it felt so I asked what they were asking for it. The reply was that is the owner's bike and its not for sale. Then why the ****** put a duc on the showroom with a bunch of harleys!!??? aarrgghhh!!!
06 BA, TOR's, 17T front sprocket, 135/42, needles shimmed, AI removed, drilled airbox, K&N air filter, desnorked, SM seat and risers, drag bars, pro-grips....let's ride!!

For me it's just got to be the MV Agusta F-4. Something about it brings back that high school feeling. It's gonna' happen.
