Has anyone over your side of the pond used a firm called Great American Motorcycle Touring. The wife and I are looking at coming over in May to do a tour of the area around the Grand Canyon. Coming for two weeks and hope to see as much as practicle without going mad. The above firm as well as Eagle Rider etc. do guided tours. Any comments or suggestions on any of these companies would be most appreciated.
Many thanks
Chris

I don't know beans about those companies, but lived for about 8 years in the southern Utah red rock country. The landscape is spectacular, even spectacular(er) viewed from two wheels

Is this a planned route trip? Do they have a website (I could google)? Maybe get some reviews on the company.

Excuse me, you mentioned "guided tours". There's a member or two from Las Vegas, maybe they'll chime in.....

I don't know about any guided tours or the companies that offer them, but there are a lot of great rides around here.
The southern Utah area is full of good rides as well, and tourism being one of their major industries now, I would think there are some bike tours around.

If you just want rent a bike and take a couple day rides, let me know. I'll see if my schedule can open up. It's getting about time for some Death Valley rides, always fun.

There are some good rides there Ray.
Just have to go between November and April. The temps stay in the low 80s (27-28c) during Winter.

Thanks Bill,
we hope to come in May, the tour included a couple of days in Las Vegas then off to Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, San Juan Skyway, Route 66, Flagstaff etc. 2800 miles in all over 14 days ending up in Las Vegas. The trip looks great and both tours cover similar ground. Just wondered if anyone had any cotact with either firm. Dont think we're doin death valley Ray so we should be OK.
Cheers
Chris

Chris -
I don't personally know anything about either company....but that tour in May sounds pretty cool - some very neat riding! (googled the tour company). I also have an aquaintance in Sedona that runs a motorcycle touring company - Wildwind Motorcycle Tours (http://www.wildwindmctours.com/tours.html) - don't know exactly about her tours, sounds like anything longer than a couple days is a custom tour - but she's a pretty neat lady. Does ride a Harley, but I don't hold that against her.
And also, we do have the SW Triumph Fest in May - last year was the third weekend....not sure of our plan this coming year - probably starting in Prescott - which is about 90 miles south of Flagstaff. We had talked about doing some sort of Grand Canyon leg this year....not specific plans made yet.
And when you get your plans settled, let us know....I'm in Flagstaff and would surely buy you and your wife a pint when you are in town.

i have a rideing bud that flew from here to vagas a few yrs ago and did that Great Amer. tour and said it was great, he said he is looking forward to doing it again???
i can only tell you what he told me, so if it helps???? myself, i would rather explore on my own, but being that you are from another part of the world it might be in your best interest to ride with a group?? Eagle, usually rents h.d.s or B.M.W.s and i know that they dont insist you ride guided. hope this helps

ENJOY!!!!! NEWT!!!!!

Thanks Becky and Newt,
just what I was hoping for, some local knowledge.
You're right we are doing it as a group as it will be new ground for us and the wife fels a bit safer amongst other like minded people. At least someone has heard of this tour company and has a good report about them. Thanks again and Becky we might hold you to that pint. The tour runs from 19th. May to beginning of June so it would be fantastic to meet up with the Triumph Fest.
This is looking one ****** of a holiday.
Cheers
Chris

Great! Glad you got some more input. I have ridden some of the area that the tour covers - fantastic roads and places. And it sounds like you'll be in the Flagstaff area w/ a layover, so make sure to keep me in mind and as things get settled and closer I'll pass on my phone number (if you PM me and remind me! ). If the SW Triumph Fest coincides, all the better!!!!
And I certainly can stand you a pint or two of local brew - we have several small breweries in town.
So sounds like you guys are going to have some fun!!!

Becky

just needed a bit of info from the locals,
we've now booked it and will be there in late May.
Really looking forward to it and drinking your beer.
Cheers

Great - May is a great time of year for riding - it can get a bit warm at the lower elevations, and still be cold at night in the high country - so you'll need layers of clothes and your cold and warm weather riding gear.
Make sure to PM me before you guys head over so I can give you contact information.
You will have a great time!!!
Becky

I have no idea about any guided tours or the companies that offer them, but there are a lot of great rides around here.
But you can try this website http://www.explorenevadatours.com/lasvegas.php, they might help you with what you're looking for.
