Ok, I purchased the T-Bike pipes. I had visited them in Nelson and they advised they did have a plating problem but they now use a different guy and they have not encountered any problems. Not too concerned about any serious performance increase just want a better sound than stock but not too loud.

Anyway, before I start, to anyone that has installed these, how many of you needed to heat the flange attachment bolts as per the instructions, my oxy-acetylene torch is out of commission and just want to know success rate without having to use heat.

I had to use some heat on 2 of the 4 bolts. On 1 the hex head rounded out, and one the threaded insert spun. I just used a small propane torch, oxy-acetylene rig not needed.

I used the heat and everything was seamless. Just used MAPP torch. Heard they could just spin if not heated.. YMMV by the way, love my Thunderpipes........

Took about as long to unpack them as it did to install . Yes , the small propane torch was enough heat to unleash the thread lock . Had to tap mine forward a bit with a rubber hammer , (be careful) . You will like them , beautiful pipes .

Propane torch should help. It's not only the threadlock but also the carbon build up that can make them tough to get out. I replaced the 4 stock hanger bolts with stainless steel when I installed mine and when I removed them last winter to repack them I didn't even need any heat.

Thanks to all for the feedback. Not sure if I can get to it this weekend.

Bike is only a few months old so carbon build up should not be a problem. We don't have MAAP in oz, but if propane is good I have that and will use it. Less chance of melting bolts as well...

I just unpacked them and stoved them on with no problems other than the chrome issue which has been solved.

My 03 Speedy needed a little heat. No biggy - bought a crack torch at the hardware store and after that it was a straight forward deal.

...yes, that is a single seat...no, I will not put the other seat on...yes, I am selfish...yes, you should buy your own bike

Put them on today. No heat and actually very little effort. Took around an hour. Very happy with the sound, finally sounds like a bike instead of a sewing machine...

Although I still like the look of the originals...

Also just a note of correction, we do have MAPP in the small bottles in oz.

Thanks to all.

The 2007 TBA came with the long reverse cone. The Speedy came with the Slash cuts that look the same as the Thunderpipes. They changed between models over the years. I like the slah cuts on the Speedy in fact I like the shorties on teh Speedy. The America looks better with the reverse cone. Just my opinion.

How many miles on the T-pipes? I had some chrome issues on my original T-pipes and got new shells. I pulled the baffles out to change them over and found most of the packing was gonzo. I bought some replacement packing and repacked them and they mellowed right out...

Moose Racing Fiberglass muffler packing

The Moose packing idea came from Pat/Dinqua originally.

About 18,000 on the pipes,

ARGHHHH, I didn't see the link, that answers almost all my questions, Thanks!

what kind of packing to ask for, about how much should it be, any guesses about how much I need for both pipes, and where can it be found, I know, lots of questions ... Thanks for any help.
Ride safe

Iceman,

If I remember correctly, there are 2 "sheets" of packing per package of the Moose packing referenced above. 1 sheet per pipe was all I used.... it wraps around about 3 times and there is an opposing cone on each end of the baffle that you have to tuck it into. You then have to tie it off with something to keep it in place. I used some stainless steel wire I had for hanging pictures.
