I posted this earlier as a reposnse to a question about these grips, but I thought it would make a good initial post here...
I just got the Kuryakyn grips in on Friday, I installed them that night. I bought them for their looks, and have only ridden about ten miles with them so far; (about eighty miles now and my original review hasn't changed) but so far I LOVE them!
I bought them mostly for their good-looks, but was pleasantly surprised with how comfortable they are. The rubber pads hold your hands out a bit from the chrome part and that allows air to circulate under your palms.
Another thing I really like about them is the thickness. They are quite a bit thicker than the stock grips. In my case this makes for a much more relaxed grip that feels more substantial at the same time.
One pointer that I have is in regard to installation... The instructions say to cut off your stock left grip with a razor, but I didn't want to destroy my stock grip. My TBA is brand new and the cost of a new set of stock grips seemed worth preserving. Here's how I got the left grip off without destroying it.
Remove the bar end-cap and stick the little red tube from a can of wd-40 up as far as you can between the rubber grip and the handlebar. Shoot WD-40 all up in there.
Work the grip a bit by gripping it with a dry rag and twisting it back and forth to get the WD-40 up further, and break the grip loose from the chrome.
Shoot more WD-40 up between the handlebar and the grip and repeat...
Squirt, twist, repeat, squirt, twist, repeat, squirt, twist, repeat; as needed.
Eventually you will get about half of the grip released from the chrome. Then loosen the control cluster from the bar and slide it up the bar a few inches so you can work the WD-40 in from the other end.
You should get the grip to slide off in a few minutes.
Wash it with soap and warm water, dry it thoroughly and box it up with the original throttle grip.
Before installing the new Kuryakyn on the left side, clean the bar thoroughly with lacquer thinner and a dry rag. Lacquer thinner will get all of the oily residue off without leaving any residue of its own.
Here is where I got my Kuryakyn grips...
