Hello, First timer here, hope I'm posting in the right spot This may sound funnny but I don't even own a triumph...yet. Long story coming to a quick end (I hope this week) Yamaha roadstar 1700 (big bike?more like big mistake) Valves stick in motor with 3000 miles. doing lemon law. we'll see how that goes. I went and kicked a few triumph tires and love the bikes. I've been riding since 96' and never looked at a triumph. can't wait to make payments on a bike I can ride!!!

Welcome aboard, If you buy a Triumph I don't believe that you will be sorry. Fun bikes to ride and for the money I don't think you can beat em. Test drive one and you will be sold. Again welcome aboard! Ron

Thanks Ron, I have been all over this forum to see the major complaints others have expressed and blued pipes and a random warped rotor seem to be it. Thats a far cry from the roadstar forum.

I haven't checked out the Roadstar forum but I would have thought they were reliable bikes. I actually was leaning towards a Roadstar back in early 02 prior to seeing the new TBA's but as soon as I saw one I new what I was buying without even riding one, I purchaced it pretty much over the phone and drove about 150 miles to pick it up and the rest is history. I have an old 69 Triumph 650 Trophy that I love and was in the middle of restoring when I bought the 02 since then it has been on the back burner but I am starting to work on it again this winter, and maybe be able to ride it again in the spring / summer time frame. Again welcome aboard and sorry to hear that you are having some real issues with your current bike. Ron

I've always thought that Yamaha was in 5th place in a 4 horse race.
A lot of mechanics I know tend to agree.

A guy that works for me has a Roadstar with 62,000 on it. No problems at all. Still has the original belt on it.

Disagree about the Yamahamer quality thing, good as any Jap bike, but then I haven't owned one in a while. I'll pass this comment on to my cousin who almost bought a R star last month. I hope you buy the Triumph, very good quality, welcome to the forum.

Yeah it turns out that from 04 to 2007 alot of roadstars are having this problem. Yamaha is telling people that after market pipes and jetting voids warrentee thank God I left mine stock! The thing that upset me the most was the way I was treated by the dealer and Yamaha. Never again!

Welcome to the forum. I almost bought a Roadstar, back when I was trying to decide on a bike. Fortunately, my brother convinced me to take another look at the Triumphs and I am very, very glad I did. I am extremely happy with my new 07 TBA, especially since it's my first real bike. We made a great run, y'day, up to Stevens Pass and she was sweet the whole ride. My other brother, the Yamaha scooter rider, was walking funny by the time we got home.
Good luck with your decision. you won't regret it!!

It's not so much that Yamahas are unreliable, they can just be frustrating to work on.
For instance:
I had a 600 Seca II. The starter clutch needed replacing. The shop manual's instructions:

1.Remove engine from frame.
2.Split cases.
3.Remove transmission.
4.Now you can get at starter clutch. Ten minute fix.

Hey Brian,
Seein' as how you sound like a man of experience here when it comes to this matter, how would you like to take a nice little vacation to Prescott AZ, where my '95 Triumph Sprint has been sittin' for the last couple years, and which needs a new starter clutch too.

And yep...you gotta split the cases to get to that little sucker on my Triumph also.

(but as you infer, at least with these newer Triumphs like the second generation triples and all the new twin models, those little suckers are much easier to get at)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

I never fixed the Seca, Dwight, I traded it in on a ZR-7S Kawasaki.

Well then Brian, deal's off Dude!

Except if you'd like to take that "little vacation to Prescott AZ" when everybody else will be there in the middle of May 2008, for the second annual Southwest Triumph Fest!

(but if you think there's an outside possibility that you'd get bored with all the great riding there is to be found that weekend in the mountains of north-cental Arizona, bring your set of Craftsman tools just in case you'd like to finally tackle that starter clutch business once and for all!)

And BTW law....you're welcome to come to Prescott that weekend TOO, newbie!

And just in case, bring YOUR set of Craftsman tools also!

(I'll get some poor gullible soul around here to change that darn starter clutch on that Sprint for me if it's the last thing I do, boy)
