It's been awhile since I posted. I wanted to sell my Speedy to get some "other" bike. The word -other -really implies that I fell in love with different bikes on the internet until I demo'd my choices--but that's another story.

I have an 07 with all the easy upgrades like exhaust,Nology,AI removed, and air box removed. However, the Speedy just doesn't have enough juice. Miles at British Customs swears I am hitting the Rev Limiter, but honestly I am not looking down at the tach when my problem occurs. Here is my situation.
At full throttle my motor just cuts out. I think the carb bowl setting is too low or the engine is starving for more fuel at that moment. As the temps have lowered I have noticed some slight backfiring at decel so I must be a little lean. Plugs confirm this. And yes, my carbs are balanced. So I purchased the Pingel fuel valve and will install and report back. Does anyone else experience this problem?

it does sound like the rev limiter. next time you ride hit the limiter and see if it is a smiliar feeling. check the bowl levels also. i know 3rd gear is good till 80, 4th till 100-105. so try running out 3rd gear and see what happens

Kelso,

With what you have done so far, if you you don't have enough juice your next step is BB kit but with the 865 I am not sure that will do it for you either.

You may just have to go to a bigger production bike rather than send money after speed you may not get.

I have always recognized for some the need to wrench as a hobby and for fun. In your case, it may be you bought the wrong bike if you still think it is weak. If you are looking for big torque and under 12 seconds in the 1/4 you may wish to go shopping before investing more into that twin.

I try to aggravate one person a day. Today may be your day.

It could also be fuel starvation from blocked filter there is a large thread some where about the small hidden filter for each carb might need a check!

It's only one filter rev, right under where the fuel hose attaches to the carbs

The pingle is a nice bit of (80 dollar) chrome. but dont look for it to solve fueling problems. the stock petcock is more than adequate in this respect.

Thanks everyone. Yes I did rejet. I went out for a ride yesterdaay and unless the rev limiter and red-line of my tach are unrelated, At about 5100rpm or main jet position on the throttle, that's where the problem is. I think fuel starvation is the problem. I did rejet after my mods, but now I'll check that carb filter issue, bowl level, and up a main jet.

Well after going through my bike for regular maintenance, I decided to rejet, and come to find out, my left carb main jet was laying in the bottom of my float bowl. All my performance problems came from the dang jet. I must have forgot to tighten the thing when I rejetted for my pipe, airbox, and Nology mods. Oh well.

If that happens somewhere around 45 - 50 MPH in first gear, it is the rev limiter. If it happens right away when you open the throttle, could be the slides are opening too soon, maybe a soft slide spring.

That could very well be. Mine says 6800 when I hit the rev limit. I guess the tachs are made on the other side of the factory where they make the speedometers.

so...did this solve your problem or does the bike still feel underpowered to you?
