You know the deal they are running if you buy a new America, well I can't decide what to do. I have read that the roadster screen is not the greatest, that the floorboards are good, but the heel/toe shifter is not great, and that the exhaust is too quiet. I am getting a great deal at MCC in the Chicago area for trading my 05 Ducati ST3. He even said that he would put the accessories on for FREE! Soooo should I get the long shash mufflers??? Here is what I am thinking long slash mufflers - 385 tall sissy bar and rack - 370 footboard kit - 315 rocker gear lever kit - 155 = $1,225. What do you guys think??? Thanks!

TORs, short sissy bar & rack (looks better than the tall), floorboards only if you plan on long trips. Congrats & good luck!

AI - Air Injection? Do you mean that emmision stuff that I have read a bit on? Buy the kit from that one place and follow the write-up that I saw somewhere on this site? What exactally does this modification do?

AI-Air injection. The shop should do it relatively cheap. Removing it keeps the pipes from turning blue on the headers. Some say moderate HP gain...but I doubt it does that....and one small thing....it makes it easier to change plugs without the AI in the way.

Order stuff that holds it's value and flip it on ebay. I got the same deal $1200 of Triumph accessories and free installs and the only thing I haven't been unhappy with is the sissybar. Everything else got sold off to buy something else. I'd suggest the sissy bar and rack, TORs, and chrome bits. You'll need to ride the bike a while to figure out what you think it needs. The really cool goodies and doo dads are not from Triumph- like the freak and progressive springs are aftermarket only and do not apply to the $1200 accessory rebate.

It helps if you already know how/where you're going to ride. Any distance and you'll appreciate the foot boards and luggage rack. 2 up and the tall sissybar will probably be better than the short. Chrome? You can probably find used stuff on ebay and get it chromed locally for less money (and better quality) than the Triumph factory chrome. If you do a lot of night riding - you can't beat the lightbar, but there are aftermarket options for that also. As far as pipes - I don't know how much the TOR's have changed since I bought a set in 03 - but mine got raspy/nasty sounding after a year or so.... The AI is a pollution reducing system - so legally, the dealer is not supposed to remove it. What you do behind closed garage doors is up to you.. Whatever you decide, if any of the parts are replacements - make sure the dealer gives you the originals. You paid for them, after all, and you might get a few bucks for them down the road. When the tinker bug really sinks it's teeth in.....

The AI removal kit is essential but seeing as that isn't a Triumph accessory it won't be available for the promotion.
From what you are thinking the only thing I wouldn't get is the rocker gear lever. It's pretty small and for you to use it properly you'd need small feet. I would replace that with the engine dresser bars for $5 more.

How small...? My feet are a US ladies 7 (I think) UK 5 and I thought you'd need big feet for it.
But I agree - don't get it - it's annoying.

Lost of good ideas and here's my two cents. Absolutely get rid of the AI. Some dealers actually now offer Brent's cool bolts so ask. Quote:

Correct, AI removal does not give you ANY performance gain.
Most everything I've heard about the rocker shifter is bad. There are a few people who love it so....... I agree with John, a few more $$ and get the engine guard bars.
Going to have a passenger or take trips? Sissy bar and luggage rack are essential.
Most people with floorboards love them, I sure do.
Good luck with the new bike!!

Just what does triumph regards as accessories?
Triumph products? Well then load up on maintenance stuff and Triumph clothing. Oil, filters, chain kits, leather jacket, accessories plug, and a rain suit order the valve adjustment tools, the chain breaker tool, etc. OR order the wheel upgrade. Or a tank/fender kit.
Ask about them replacing the mag mopus and excedras with the tires that come stock on a speedy. (A Triumph part? Grey area for sure)
If you just want to load up on accessories to spend the 1200 bucks, don't have them install. You install or sell as new.

All depending on what you plan on doing with your bike.
Riding two-up or touring - get the tall sissy bar w/rack (she'll thank you) windshield and lightbar.
Riding around town or solo - get whatever bling suits your fancy (tachometer, lightbar, various covers, alarm, clutch cover, dust cover...)
I have a tendency to stray away from the reselling on ebay idea. This is YOUR bike...deck it out the way YOU want. Put it on and enjoy it all the way!!
As i mentioned earlier, there's tons of little stuff that will make your bike look nicer and I'm sure you'll rack up the $ 1,200 in no time, but I would stay away from the leather panniers (don't ask me how I know).

Been on the Triumph website lately? Accessories are defined and cataloged under the >Accessories< tab... Clothing, Bikes, Genuine Parts, etc., under their own tab, respectively. I think the offer says: "$1,200 free in Accessories", which would exclude those nice leather jackets.

That makes sense since it's Triumph offering the deal and not the dealer. If it were the dealer they'd offer anything in their shop not just the Triumph stuff.
Nancy works with car dealers all the time and when a manufacturer offer a deal like this the dealer gets it and then is reimbursed for it. Triumph isn't going to give the dealer money for something that they don't sell themselves.
But I would pay out of my own pocket for an AI kit.

Great responses - thanks guys! Makes me feel better about getting rid of my 05 Ducati ST3 and getting into an America. So I will ride the bike in town a lot, about 4 miles a day, IRON BUTT , under 40 mph to work and back. Once in a while the wife and I will take a trip to the nearest "big town" about 45 minutes away, and I would guess about once or twice a year I will ride with her for a few hours or longer. Other than that I will go out and enjoy the bike on the straight booring roads in central Illinois when I have free time. So that is how the bike will be used. Oh, I prefer not to ride at night - LOTS of deer around here. So the dealer I am trading with at MCC said that he would install the accessories for FREE - I emailed to be sure about the mufflers - waiting to hear back. This is what I am thinking based on the riding I will do - let me know if you have better suggestions: -Triumph Long mufflers - $385 -Tall sissy bar and rack - $370 -Floorboard kit - $315 Not sure what else - engine dresser bars, tach, clock, ??? Not sure! OH - is it weird using floorboards and the regular shifter? Thanks again everybody!

I like the tach for information but, it is in a useless position! Let's see, take my eyes off the road to look down....... Not a good position, but I like the information, lets me confirm what gear I am running.... Love the footboards, heard nothing but trouble about the rocker shift, never used one. Enjoy and Ride Safe.

Sissy bar and rack, for sure. The short is too short on the 2007, which I understand has a thicker rear seat.

My best investment was the floorboards.
Why didn't you just ask what color you should buy too? You would get just as many opinions.
BTW - blue and black speedies are the bestest and most fastest.

You bet - Chrome; it's way to true happiness and turning heads. The more time you spend looking at all of the possibilities for functional and non-functional upgrades the more you realize that this is a journey. Take your time and customize her to your liking - one part at a time.

Roadster screen is great. floorboards are unbeatable. triumph tall sissy bar is short by any standards and comfortable for passenger, looks good too. listen to the sound byte of the thunderbike exhaust from new zealand. heard that the new pillion seat is comfortable. I'd check that out first hand. my 05 pillion wouldn't make a good campfire. 12,000 miles and it's still my favorite bike though.

I bought my new '07 TBA in Denver (Erico Motorsports) and they just gave me a credit in their parts and accessories department. I can use the money on anything I wish. Triumph brand or not.
He came up and asked, "What are you riding?" I looked at him and said, "Triumph Bonneville America" and he got that 'hellz yeah' look in his eye.

That's just a smart dealer. They give you the credit and tell Triumph that you took such and such accessories. They fill any holes in their inventory that way and you get a better selection of stuff. Again, smart dealer.
