I bought some adapters from Brent and installed Kuryakyn elipse's with convex glass on my Speedmaster . They worked great. Some vibration above 90mph but overall I'm pleased.

I have a question. Are 10mm internal adapters suitable for mounting custom mirrors on a speedmaster?

I don't agree. You try making them commercially for less !! The ones I make in UK are around the same price (different design though). Don't forget, we're not getting them bulk made in Taiwan like Kuryakyn.

If you've got a lathe and some stainless bar stock you could make your own for free.

I make them but they are not free. I have to buy the stainless. I buy stainless bolts to turn them from costs about $3 a bolt and about 10 min or so to turn them then a few more to polish them.

If they are mass produced I would imagine the stainless cost would be much less and turned faster since I have to set mine up one at a time and measure as I turn unlike a computerized machine, so I stand by my way over priced statement.

well.. okay. I dont disagree with the "overpriced" but I don't begrudge someone making a profit either if they give me what I want and have no way of getting for myself. I wonder how much a machine shop would charge if I walked in off the street and handed them a blueprint for those mirror adapters. I'll bet a lot more than Brent's charging.

depends on the shop, there is a small shop here Cold Spring, they have done several jobs for me that I didn't have the right tooling for and they are very in expensive. I bet they would do it for about $20 if I gave them the material.larger shops just plain wouldn't want to be bothered probably. I know another guy who builds and races top fuel drag cars, he would do it for me for free. (he does some tig welding for me from time to time since I can't afford a good tig welder)

I understand your point, of course it's sensible and cheaper to make for yourself if you have the tools and skill. But my point is there's a difference between making for yourself, or a mate making you a 1off as a favour, vs making them commercially. There's not a very big market out there for our bikes, even if we want to kid ourselves there is !! I guess Brent sells 30 pairs a year (ish), so even if he stocks for 3 years sales, it's still only 90 pairs. That's barely a commercial quantity and he has to carry the stock cost. Just think it through...10 mins each turning + 10 mins each polishing adds up to 40 mins/pair at whatever a Craftsman's rate is in US (it's about £12/hour in UK +about 45% employers contribution to National Insurance/holiday pay/overhead), so if you work that out + material cost + the 2 new stainless bolts & O rings + vat, you'll see there's not that much profit in them. BTW..the adaptors I make have the added complexity of 1 male and 1 female thread, so machining time is more than 10 mins each.
I guess the bottom line is, if you're one those who can't/doesn't want to do it for yourself, you should expect to pay a reasonable premium for someone else having the ideas and putting up his own money to make nice bits available to a niche market.

P.S. I never said what you make is over priced since I have never seen those. But the threading operations are extra time and thats extra cost.

No..I know you weren't criticising my price. I just felt I needed to defend Brent's (I must be going soft !!)and manufacturing costs in general.
