Where can I get the proper tool to remove the oil filter? I have one of the band type of wrenches, but it is gonna scrap the bottom of the frame when I start turning it. I am looking for the cup type that fits on the bottom of the filter and you add a wrench to the bottom of that. Help please! Thanks Al

You might try one of those rubber pads that you use to open jars. The filter shouldn't be THAT tight. After that, get a K&N filter (part #kn-191). They have a hex nut on them for easy tightening/un-tightening.

BTW - a plastic strap wrench would be no match for the powder coated frame. It won't scratch it...

Talking about powder coated frames brings to mind another question. I find it very intersting that Triumph chose to powder coat the frame in a flat color. I think it is the first bike that I have ever seen come that way from the factory. Very intersting. Anyone know if there was a special reason for this? Al

Vegas,
I use the big 12" channel locks.

If you have an old leather riding or gardening glove that will give you enough grip to twist the filter off. I've used an old leather belt to take off auto filters that were tough. The leather won't slip, and will allow you to use any lever available.

I purchased one from an Advanced Auto Parts Store. Most Auto Part stores carry the Cup type socket tools. The one I have is made to be used with a 3/8 ratchet driver . Sears might carry them also.

I used one of the rubber/fiber strap wrenches from Sears to remove the Triumph filter. You can put them on at an angle to clear the frame if necessary.
Have been using the K&N since and they are a snap.

Ditto the channel locks. Couldn't be any easier.

Double ditto the channel locks. Even though I use a cap wrench like tcv does. Fill the new filter up with oil at install.

Maybe you can punch a hole through the OEM Triumph or a Fram oil filter, but the filters I use you will need to add a hammer in conjunction with the Phillips screw driver. The outer casing is made out of 1/16" cold rolled steel.

I bought one from the dealer, but when I switched to an Amsoil filter it didn't fit anymore. Since I do my own chages now I usually can get it off with my hands.
