Broke out the the Carbtune II today and checked my carb sychronization, and it was off. One side of the Carbtune gauge said 24, while the other said 20.
So, all you serious Bonneville riders, get yourself a carb synchronizer. Otherwise it is the equivalent of running a foot race with a limp.

Is that thing small enough to pack up and bring to Idaho?

The manual says to replace the air filter every 8000 miles. I would suspect the same caveat applies as with other applications, "more often in dusty conditions..." I have found that my bike runs better if I pull the air filter (stock) and blow it out everytime I change oil, (4000 miles) and replace it every second time (8000 miles).
I use the Carbtune everytime I do this and the synch is always off somewhat. I also use it every time I make any mod that may affect performance. I don't know if the adjustment is being affected by vibration, but there is always a minor adjustment to be made and a noticeable improvement afterwards.....

I have the carb synchronizer from Brent with the mercury. I appreciate the accuracy of mercury, but I am sure it is more sensitive that the hard metal floats in the carb tune. I also appreciate mercury in what it can do to our bodies. I seal up the synchronizer every time I use it, and will not travel with it. Both kits travel well, but the mercury stays home in a safe, in an "away from people" place. Ride Safe, Dennis

Does anyone have any experience with the Motion-pro carb tuner? I just bought one and I haven't had a chance to check my carbs yet.
