If you read the first installment you already know I have an '03 America with a chrome rear SM wheel and a chrome rear drive hub...
During all of my rear brake problems and R&Iing my rear wheel, I figured I should go ahead and install a TBird cush drive while I'm in there. So I did.
The bike shifted solid. Pulled out solid. Felt good.
However, when "cruising" down the road, in 4th or 5th gear, a slight twist of the throttle resulted in a lot of vibration - the whole bike shook to the beat of the engine..
I thought I had tire/bearing/frame bolt torque problems.. turns out it was chrome......
The TBird cush drive is beefier than stock. However, I am running a chromed SM wheel with a chromed drive hub. The chromed "innards" of the SM wheel combined with the chromed "fins" of the drive hub, while not polished to a show finish, are still enough added material to take up any clearance.
The result being, there was no "cush", only drive. This made my TA vibrate like a bed in a cheap hotel.... if you have a quarter, that is..
I reinstalled my original cush drive and am living happily ever after. And I'm saving those quarters for a new stock TA cush drive...
