My Triumph BA barely has 250 miles on it and yesterday after coming back from a 1.5 hr ride noticed that the headers on both sides are blued up; right header is bluer than the left.

Did some searches on the forum to fix this issue and want to make sure I’m on the right path?

Step 1 - Air Injection needs to be removed. I went to the local dealer and he had no clue what I was talking about and didn’t have this kit.

- Can someone paste the URL of a online vendor who sells this kit?

- Will removal of the AI stop the bluing, are there any other steps needed to rectify this issue?

Step 2- Ordered Blue away to clean the headers once the AI is removed

- Will this product clean up the blued headers?
- Any precautions in the applications/use of this product?

Step 3 – I have read after AI removal the air/fuel screws on the bottom of each carb need to be reset? If not the pipes will start getting a brown tint.

- Can someone elaborate on this so I can ensure the dealer takes care of this while installing the AI elimination kit?

Hey Grit, good luck getting the dealer to adjust those screws correctly... It's something you can do without removing anything from the bike, check out Pat's web page and read thru his carb stuff. Don't get scared, it's not that hard, but somewhere in there I think there is a solid picture of the screws you need to adjust. Also, here's a link to Brent's AI removal kit at Newspeedmaster.com . He has tons of other stuff on there to, warm up the credit card.... If you keep searching, you'll find all the info you need on the AI removal stuff. Removing the AI and adjusting the screws should prevent bluing, and the blue away should get rid of it. I have some, but haven't used it yet, hopefully someone else can elaborate!

Don't ever go to that dealer again, not even for an oil change.Get some "simichrome" to polish all your bare metal.

After removing the AI on my bike, the discoloration completely stopped without doing any other adjusting at all.

It sounds like your dealer may not have a clue or at maybe just the person you talked to doesnt. My dealer even carries the AI removal kit from NewSpeedmaster.com.

Hey Britrover

As far as I know there's no triumph dealers that stock AI removal kits, coz it's not an officially approved thing. As such it technically breaches your warranty, however any dealer with a half decent mechanic will realise that it has no impact on the warranty and will happilly ignore it - however if you have one particular dealer you're planning on using a lot for warranty stuff it's a good idea to talk to their mechanic (not the guy on the floor) about it first and get his ok.

There's several companys that sell the removal kits (or you can even make your own out of sump plugs for certain cars) but by far the best one's Brent at newspeedmaster, if only for the fact that he supports us so well. (His AI plugs also have funky union jacks machined into the tops tho.)

Something else to be aware of that'll blue your pipes is putting on a more open exhaust system without putting larger jets into the carbs as that'll lean the mixture out badly.

Finally you might want to search for a recent thread concerning fitting a "balance hose" between your carbs when you remove your AI. This is just a vacume hose that goes from one inles manifold to the other and gives a smoother idle. I used the vacume hose that supplied the AI pump and simply rerouted it to the other carb.

one of my header pipes was blueing rather bad just after i got my new bike, the pipe inside the crome header sleave was to close, they replaced the header section under warranty. even so i still removed the A1 thats one peice of junk on our bikes.

I know it's subjective but I just don't see the problem with blueing headers. I like 'em

Hey Sandmann! What is the purpose of the "balance hose"? I am about to take off my AI and I want to do it right. This is the first time I have ever heard about this "balance hose". Thanks in advance!
