A friend of mine told me this story today:
About two weeks ago his brother, who lives in Victorville CA, was riding his Yamaha Road Star 1700 with his girlfriend on the pillion. As he was riding on one of the freeways in the San Bernardino area he passed a group of six Harleys (going the same way). He waved, they waved and he rode on at a bit higher speed than the HDs.
He was doing around 85mph when his rear tire completely came apart. Not a blowout, a complete disintegration.
He said the only way he stayed up was because of his extensive dirt bike experience as the bike was swerving over all six lanes of the freeway.
He couldn't look behind him to see any cars, and just had to hope he didn't hit any, or get hit (this was around 1:00 PM on a Saturday, traffic was not light). He finally got it over to the side, got off and looked around.
The Harley riders had fanned out and blocked all six lanes of traffic.

glad that he made it out of that safe! A lot to be said for those riders. Sounds like a "respect given is a respect received" you dont really see a lot of riders that look out for each other these days. Cheers to them.

I think it's dangerous to label any group. Harley bashing can be fun in moderation. However, when push comes to shove, we're all motorcycle riders and respect is the soothing oil that makes riding motorcycles great.

Very good story. There are bikers/motorcyclists/riders that look out for each other no matter what we ride, then there are owners. Quote:

Yes, it is. Hopefully we are all looking our for each other on the road.

Good for all involved, your friend for staying upright and the other riders for looking out for one of our own.

Nonsense - They had some intrinsic GOOD about them and responded in a humanitarian way , they probably would have done the same to preserve life , whether it be a cager , truck , etc . BTW , my WIFE is a TYPICAL Harley rider also .

(NAAAWWW!!!...just kiddin'!!!...good for those H-D riders!!! I think most anyone who rides most any kind of motorcycle would have done the same.....I HOPE anyway!)

I don't think anyone said all Harley riders are bad. But I doubt that was a group of RUBs or "checkbook bikers."

Totally agree John. Lik ei said before, there are bikers/motorcyclists/riders that look out for each other no matter what we ride (even though we may poke fun at each others brands once in a while), then there are owners (RUBs/checkbook bikers/posers). I know a few Triumph "owners" that are just as bad as some HD "owners".

Dear " Sarcasm Man " , otay , it's cool , just hard to distinguish betwixt sarcasm and reality without the benefit of facial expression and verbal inflection . Typed words can appear caustic at times , that is why we have Graemlins to assist us in expressing our true intent .

Yeah Wade! And Phil couldn't find a one o' those little guys that would represent total deadpan humor.
(I hear that's a tough one to find out there in cyberspace...very little facial expression, ya know)

at least amoung the sea of inexpensive jap bikes and crotch rocket trends my first bike was a triumph..ahha
but seriously when i was growing up along side the birth of internet chat rooms and little smiley face things were something the little 12 year old girls got into.

Well now this site is largely dominated by old over the hill GEEZERS.
Dwight is old. Most of the mods are old or look old. Most of the pictures from the GA rally and the Noreast Rally over the years prove this beyond a shadow of a doubt.
Its primairly an old GEEZER site with just a sprinkling of young drunken yutes added in for spice.
Other than that its all old Drunk Geezers reminiscing about their days of DRUNKEN youth.

Well. for my purposes its 50. People started to refer to me as an old geezer at 50. Its been said that some look like geezers at 45. I think its a variable thing.
