Hope the New Year is treating all well.
Ever since I went down on the Speedy last June I've wanted to replace the mirrors, since one was damaged. Not wanting OEM mirrors, I looked for hours on the web found a set that said was for metric bikes. Ordered them, tried installing them. found out that they would not fit. Disgusted sent them back. Kept on looking with out any luck, the metric adapters they sell, the studs is too small in dia., you would have to drill out the hole bigger, using bushings. I personally didn't want to drill out my controls. So things came to a stand still.
2wks ago I saw a post in ref. to mirrors, & a reply stating Ma's cycles made mirror adapters for the America/Speedmater. Ordered a set of adapters & reordered the mirrors. Ma's was great to deal with, & shipping was fast, had them in 3 days, the mirrors I reordered from JC Whitney, got them in 4 days. GREAT!! I was ready to go with a big ole grin on my face tore in to the mirrors, adapters in hand. BOOM!! I came down hard, the inside dia. of the bushing would not accept the mounting stud, & the stud's length was only equal to the length of the bushing. So even if it had fit the inside dia. of bushing I still won't be able to get a nut on the stud.
Beatting my brains out, I kept coming up with the only answer. Have to have a stud machined same dia. of the hole where they mount on the controls at one end, 5/16 tread at the other, at the proper length & not used the adapters.. While checking thread sizes, & sit down and draw it out so I could have them made. I picked up a 2" 5/16 bolt matched the treads. it came to me. Boy I was making a mountin range out of a grain of sand. the 5/16 dia. fits the inside dia. of the bushing, get a 5/16 stainless steal bolt the right length that will pass thru the bushing & into the base of the mirror arm. Problem solved. Will let you know how it goes.
Included is the link to the mirrors, like them because they are offset, also to Ma's for the bushings they do raise the mirror arms up about an inch, but that is good with the drag bars.
If anyone is looking for a good jacket Iron pony has a close out of Gericke Textile Jackets, Tribal. they have limited sizes in the black & red, but in the black & yellow the complete size ranges. The cost is $115.00 includes shipping. Checked them out at other web sites & they range from $140.00 to $225.00. not including shipping. I ordered it Sun afternoon got it Weds afternoon, it had their original price tag at $185.00.
Got the yellow myself . First reason was it helps you stand out more to the cage drivers, as we know black can make us blend to the back ground, Thats not a good thing, need to stand out a bit more so to attract attention to ourselves, so we have a better chance of being seen especially during morning & evening commutting times. Yes I will still wear my black leather jacket when riding, grins, whats a motorcycle with out a black leather jacket. Second reason my speedy is black & yellow.
