The wife isn't terribly comfortable for more than 100 miles/day sitting on pillion, but we'd like to take off on longer trips. I never see any used Trophys and don't know how dependable they were (maybe somebody can advise on that). A Sprint isn't really a good option for two-up touring, so I've been leaning toward something like a used ST1300/ FJR1300 or even a Concours (not the new one) since I am really more comfortable seated on a standard or a sportbike than I am on a cruiser for long periods of time (bad back).

I was wondering what choices anyone would make, or if anyone wants to throw their 2cents in on other possibilities?

I'm not getting rid of the America. This would be an "extra"

From what I have read, and the one owner that I know, the Tiger is almost bullet proof. That might be one of the reasons you don't see any used ones. The guy I know that has a Tiger, has a 1999 or 2000 with almost 100,000 miles on it.

Here's a couple of things Triumph says about the Sprint on their web site. Just something to think about...

The supportive, spacious seat and relaxed rider and pillion ergonomics make for great comfort on long distance trips.

Why not? My girlfriend didn't think so either until Charlie gave her a ride on the back of his at the NY rally. With a trunk and backrest she thought she'd be pretty comfortable.

Here are a couple that fit your requirements. A bit far from you, but it would be a nice ride home.

connie

Trophy

Martin's is a pretty reputable place from what I hear. The prices for those bikes seem pretty good to me. If I had the money, one of them would be in my garage right now. I could help get you from the airport if you need it, but you should be able to find something similar in your area.

Moto Guzzi Norge?

Or a Kawasaki ZZR1200?

I see used ZZR1200s on Cycletrader.com with bags for about $8K.

HONDA ST1300

In standard configuration is comfy on long journeys for me and the wife. With all the available mods for tall folks like us it is even more comfortable. It is more Touring than a Sprint or the new connie which is what the wife wanted. And it is not a Goldwing or Hearitage, which is a good thing.

114 BHP at the wheel is very nice an will turn very well. It is a good ride even without a passenger.

I bad thing, it is bland in terms of character. Very fast, nimble, and smooth but does not evoke much emotion.

It is like getting an LX Mustang instead of the GT it does the job very well but it just isn't as cool.

But if you want a bullit proof bike that is very comfortable for hours, it may meet you needs. But, But...if she doesn't ride a whole lot with you get the Sprint it is more fun to ride by your self and cheaper.

Hi Kurt:

It looks like you are in my area. I am in Rock Hill, and the last time I was at the Matthews dealership they had a used Trophy. However, that has been a couple of months. It was also listed on their website.

I was at the dealership in Batesburg (Ridge Motorsports) this past Tuesday. I really like those guys. They have both a new and consigned Sprint, and a demo Tiger. Also, we were talking about FJR's and he said he knew somebody who was thinking of selling their's after he bought a Tiger. Of course, the cost of a used FJR may still get you a new Sprint or Tiger.

Good luck
Mike

Dard !....between the yamaha ventures & fj's, honda gl-1000's/goldwings, assorted kawi's , my butt and my wifes little tushy have been happiest on our Triumph Trophy.....I have seen several with low miles (my opinion) for a very reasonable price.....If I did not LOVE my Sprint so much I would purchase another Trophy to set in the stable with the Bonnie-A.......That Trophy is quite a touring machine !

Thanks for the advice. I think I might start watching a little closer for a Trophy. With winter coming on, I may be able to find a sweet deal.
